Obituary -- Forrest Wake 1939-2019

Forrest James “Frosty” Wake, 80, of Pickering, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Forrest battled lengthy illnesses of COPD, emphysema, diabetes and cancer and was placed on hospice at the end of his illnesses.
He was born at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri on March 22, 1939 to Donald and Thelma (McKee) Wake, who preceded him in death.

Forrest attended schools at Sheridan, Hopkins and graduated as the Vice-President from Pickering High School in 1957.

Forrest served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1963 as a sheet metal worker on aircrafts. After his honorable discharge, he worked at MFA Elevator at Sheridan. He also worked at Townsend Tree Service, Martin Marietta Concrete Materials. He retired from LMP Steel and Wire after 27 years and was a farmer all his life.

On December 31, 1965, Forrest married Ruth Schimming and unto this union was born a daughter, Melody (Wake) Wilcoxson and son, Jimmy (James) Wake. Forrest and Ruth were married almost 54 years. They lived at Pickering, Missouri most of their married life on a farm, where he raised hogs and cattle and farmed the land in addition to holding down a full-time job.

Forrest was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church. He was a hard worker, great storyteller, an avid coon hunter, fisherman, and competitive card player with his family and friends. He loved reading westerns, particularly by Louis L’Amour, and watching old westerns, his favorite being John Wayne. He was naturally a prankster and loved to play practical, harmless jokes on family and friends. He also loved spoiling and teasing his grandkids.

Forrest is survived by his wife Ruth, of the home; daughter, Melody Wilcoxson, Union Star, Missouri; son, Jimmy (Dawn) Wake, College Springs, Iowa; two sisters, Willa (Meryl) Short, Des Moines, Iowa and Betty Wake, Hopkins, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jamie (Joe) Harness, Nicholas Palmer, Mackenzie Wilcoxson, Carson Wake, Riley Wake and Layne Wake; step-granddaughter, Morgan (Eli) Pulliam Esque; great-grandchild, Jace Harness; step-great-grandchild, Holdyn Esque and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ramona Rinehart of Moravia, Iowa and Donna Campbell of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 2 pm at the Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville, Missouri under the direction of Price Funeral Home. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, Missouri. Memorials may be given to Maryville Mosaic Hospice.
