Everett Darrell Stevens, age 89, Grant City, Missouri died Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City.
Darrell was born September 20, 1927 near Denver, Missouri, the son of the late Everett A. and Essie Pauline (Hughes) Stevens.
He was a 1945 graduate of Grant City High School, Grant City. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 with his father’s approval. While in the navy he served in the shore patrol on a hospital ship stationed in the Philippines.
Darrell was united in marriage to M. Carolyn “Connie” Craig, November 11, 1949 in Laredo, Missouri.
Darrell retired as a Rural Letter Carrier, a positon he held from 1959 to 1995. He delivered mail in most of Worth County, including Denver, Grant City, Allendale and Worth.
His memberships included: Rural Letter Carrier Association and the Denver Baptist Church. Darrell loved farming, including his cow/calf operation, raising crops and working in the hay field.
Upon retiring Darrell and Connie spent 20 years wintering in Aladdin Villa a subdivision of Mission, Texas, where they enjoyed the warm weather, and made many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister Faye Long.
Survivors include: Wife, Connie of the home, Craig Stevens, Grant City, Lisa (Clay) McNair, Maryville, Missouri, Ed (Kim) Stevens, Gladstone, Missouri, Eric (Jana) Stevens, Kearney, Missouri, brother, Walter (Regina) Stevens, Florida, sister, Phyllis (Keith) Adams, Colorado, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 PM, Thursday, December 1. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery, Denver, Missouri. Memorial: Miller Cemetery, Denver.
