Sheridan Brush Cleanup Nearing Completion

The brush cleanup around Sheridan is nearing completion. The City Council voted to set the cutoff date for cleanup for April 15; all brush that is placed beside the road will be picked up until that day. Bill Lantz was in charge of the cleanup effort; among the people who helped with the work were Gary James, Wayne Branham, Pete Belekonny, Richard Caldwell, Larry Dowis, Dave Parman, Bob Young, Dan Barnett, Dale Rowe, Dave Thomas, and Bud Allee. They used Allee’s pickup truck and Eldon Hart’s low-boy. Parman reported that there was about one day’s worth of work left.
Mayor Bud Allee reported that the city had sold a lot of gravel to people; the water took in $125 for the month of April, and the city building fund finally got the interest from the CD’s. The gravel cost share for this year will be $1,050; the council voted to accept the agreement with the county.
Allee said that the city will have to do "quite a bit of work" to fix up the streets after the long winter; he said that if he were reelected, he would have some work lined up to fix them. He estimated that the gravel would cost $10,000 for this year above and beyond the county’s cost-share gravel; the council voted to authorize him to purchase any needed gravel on Tuesday. There is a whole load needed by the Methodist Church.
Allee reported that he had met with Fire Chief Butch Thomas and that the city’s fire insurance rating was 8.
Clerk Marian Scott reported that there were four delinquent water bills for this month. She said that one had paid, one had moved out, and two were delinquent; the council authorized Dave Parman to shut their water off. Discussion turned to the problem of people moving in and out without telling anyone; at the suggestion of councilman Dave Thomas, Scott will send the bill to landlord Ed Ackley before turning on the water for the next tenant.
Allee thanked "each and every one" of the council members, as well as Dave Parman and Marian Scott for their assistance; "it would have been a tough road without you."
The council approved a request from the CBC to use the community building for child care on the 19th for the Relay for Life Fundraiser at Jim’s.
