Officers were named Friday for the Worth County FBLA. President is Evalyn Gilland. Vice President for Contests is Krista Monticue. Vice President for Service is Kristen Tracy. Secretary is Jolynn Hawk, Treasurer is Arenna Galanakis, Reporter is Kambree Briner, and Historian is Megan Tracy.
Worth County High School’s FBLA chapter delivered a strong performance at the District 1 Competition this past Thursday, February 5. The chapter brought home several top finishes and qualified nine students for the State Leadership Conference.
The Tigers were led by two first-place finishes and several runners-up who will represent the chapter at the state level:
Digital Video (1st Place): Seniors Lucas Frisch, Brayden Combs, and Andrew Griffin took the top spot with their professional video production. The team extended a special thank you to local business owner Adam Summers for allowing them to conduct an interview and tour his business to provide a real-world perspective for their project.
Electronic Career Portfolio (1st Place): Junior Kristen Tracy won her category with a comprehensive website showcasing her resume and career research focused on her passion for farming. You can view her award-winning portfolio at ktracy23.wixsite.com/farm.
Graphic Design (2nd Place): Senior Conner Pointer and Junior Arenna Galanakis earned their state bid with a creative logo redesign for the Oldtowne Cafe.
Introduction to Business Presentation (2nd Place): Freshmen Tucker Fletchall and Brock Healy made an impressive debut, taking second place and qualifying for state in their first year of competition. Their presentation focused on the risks and benefits of businesses using artificial intelligence.
Objective Tests & Speaking: Jolynn Hawk placed in the top five in all of her events and qualified for state in two. She qualified in both Introduction to Supply Chain Management and Introduction to Business Communication. She also placed 5th in Introduction to Public Speaking.
In addition to the state qualifiers, Worth County saw strong placement in other competitive team events:
Event Planning (4th Place): Juniors Krista Monticue and Evalyn Gilland earned a fourth-place finish, demonstrating their logistical and organizational skills in one of the day’s most challenging categories.
The state qualifiers will now begin preparing for the Missouri FBLA State Leadership Conference held this April, where they will compete against the best business students from across the state.
The Worth County FBLA Chapter attended the State Leadership Conference in Springfield, MO April 16-18th. The chapter had 10 students qualify for state in 8 different events. The chapter left bright and early Sunday morning for the Public Service Announcement team to perform in prelims later that afternoon. The team of freshmen: Brayden Combs, Lucas Frisch, and Andrew Griffin created a 30 second video over the dangers of screen addiction and then presented to a panel of judges their video along with the planning and design process of creating the video. Later that night the chapter attended Opening Ceremonies after catching a few rolls at Lambert’s Café.
Performing the following day were teams that had advanced to finals based on their prejudged submissions. The E-Business team, consisting of seniors; Drew Welch, Ali Brown, and Taylor Sanders presented their website over a rental property here in Worth County. They first had to build a website and then presented to judges on the creation of the site. The team barely missed advancing to nationals by placing 5th at state.
Another team performance was the team of Ethan Frese, Tucker Owens, and Lincoln Wake who created a video that was prejudged. They created a hype video for football and published it on YouTube. They advanced to finals to present to the judges on the equipment, technology, and process behind the creation of their video. They placed 8th in the state overall.
The PSA team presented again in the final round but did not make the top 10 in the state.
Lincoln Wake placed 5th at state overall in the Word Processing production test, 1 place shy of advancing to nationals. Lincoln took a timed hour test where he had to produce business documents with proper formatting. He also took an objective test over the terms and concepts of Word Processing.
Drew Welch qualified for National FBLA in the production test of Database Design and Applications. Drew had 1 hour to create, populate, and query a database for a mock company. Then Drew had to take a 1-hour objective test over database terms. Drew advances to nationals in Atlanta, Georgia in late June.
Qualifying at state but not placing was Hailey Adwell in Website Design, Tucker Owens in UX Design, Ethan Frese in Computer Problem Solving.
In addition to attending the conference, members had a little time at Bass Pro Shop, the mall, and managed to break out of an Escape Room with 25 minutes to spare. The Worth County Chapter of FBLA will wrap up their year with officer interviews and pre-selling of Colorado Peaches for their fundraiser in August.
The Worth County FBLA Chapter participated in the District Leadership Conference at Northwest Missouri State University on Wednesday, February 8th. Worth County was well represented with ten students qualifying for state in nine events. Taking first place in E-Business were seniors Ali Brown, Taylor Sanders, and Drew Welch. The prompt for this year was to create a website for a local rental property. Our team worked with Dan and Bobbi Jo Gladstone of Worth, MO to create a website for their renovated grain bins. Combining their website design skills with interior drone footage and the uniqueness of the bins themselves gave the team a leg up and they won districts for a third year in a row. Drew Welch also took first place in the event of Database Design Applications where he had an hour to produce and populate a database requiring reports, queries, and relationships.
Another first-place finish for Worth County FBLA was the Digital Video Production team of senior Tucker Owens and juniors Ethan Frese and Lincoln Wake. The team worked all fall on capturing football videos in all weather conditions and grabbed some unique field footage using a drone. After submitting their video, they then presented to a panel of judges on their design and development process. Lincoln Wake also won his individual event of Word Processing where he had an hour to produce business formatted documents ranging from letters, agendas, and tables. Tucker Owens also qualified 3rd in an objective test of UX Design. Ethan Frese qualified 5th in his objective test of Computer Problem Solving.
The chapter had two second place finishes that also qualified for state. Senior, Hailey Adwell, placed second in Website Design where she showcased her business, Hailey Adwell Designs, and presented her website to a panel of judges. Hailey’s website included several years of her design work and the judges were impressed that she used her actual business as her website project. Also placing second at districts in their first year of FBLA were freshmen Brayden Combs, Lucas Frisch, and Andrew Griffin. They took on the event of Public Service Announcement in which they had to produce a 30 second video over a teen social issue and then present to judges on their planning, design, and development process behind the video. The boys chose the topic of teen screen addiction and made a cartoon PSA where a 911 call from a concerned parent turned out to be an addicted screen zombie.
Teams are currently fine tuning their projects for state submission and will travel to Springfield, MO April 16th-18th. FBLA will help out at the PTO carnival in early March. Then, on March 9th FBLA will take their field trip to Urban Air in Des Moines and will also volunteer two hours at Meals from the Heartland. FBLA officers are currently deciding on ideas for fundraising to generate funds for state and potentially nationals. On Wednesday, two North Nodaway students, Jacquelyn Cline (2nd from left) and Morgan Pope (2nd from right) served as officers for the District 1 FBLA contests. Cline was VP of FBLA Public Relations and Pope was the Secretary.
Drew Welch (Worth County) finished fourth in Agribusiness and qualified for state. Jacquelyn Cline (North Nodaway) was 6th and qualified as a wildcard.
In Business Calculations, Jayliegh Robins (North Harrison) was 7th.
Morgan Pope, who gave a candidate speech, was announced as the new FBLA District 1 President.
In Computer Problem Solving, Ethan Frese (Worth County) was fifth and qualified for state.
In Database Design and Applications, Drew Welch (Worth County) was 1st and qualified for state. It was his second ticket to state.
In Digital Video Production, Ethan Frese, Tucker Owens, and Lincoln Wake from Worth County won and qualified for state. It was Frese’s second ticket to state.
In E-Business, the Worth County team of Ali Brown, Taylor Sanders, and Drew Welch won and qualified for state. They beat out a student from Cameron and a student from St. Joseph Central. It was Drew Welch’s third ticket.
From North Harrison, Evan Schreiber placed 4th in Economics and qualified for state.
In Graphic Design, Lacy Riley (North Nodaway) finished 10th.
For Worth County, Claire McElvain was 8th in Health Care Administration.
In Introduction to Business Concepts, Kenzie Milligan (North Harrison) was 2nd and qualified for state.
Lucas Frisch (Worth County) was 8th in Introduction to Information Technology.
Kenzie Milligan (North Harrison) was 4th in Introduction to Public Speaking.
Trendi Johnson (North Harrison) was 4th in Job Interview.

For North Nodaway, Morgan Pope was 2nd in Publication Design and qualified for state.
The sales presentation of Katelyn Briggs and Trendi Johnson (North Harrison) was 2nd and qualified for state.
The Worth County team of Landon Moser, Tyler New, and Kolten Smith placed 8th in Sports & Entertainment Management.
Tucker Owens (Worth County) qualified for state and finished 3rd in UX Design. Lincoln Wake (Worth County) finished 6th.
Hailey Adwell (Worth County) saw her website design finish 2nd and qualify for state.

The Worth County business department recently completed a grant through the Worth County Education Foundation to purchase a drone for classroom use and for FBLA use. The drone purchased has 4k HDR video quality and will allow students to learn how to fly a drone and also give them unique abilities to capture videos and pictures for class video productions and for FBLA projects. The drone is under 250 grams so it is not required for students to be licensed to fly the drone. Since the drone has arrived an FBLA group has already used the drone to capture video footage for a website that they are designing for the FBLA contest event of E-Business. Ali Brown, Taylor Sanders, and Drew Welch teamed up with Dan and Bobbi Gladstone of Worth, MO to feature their unique grain bin rental property to build the website for (See Page 1). The team is confident their rental property will be the coolest in the competition. John Galanakis tagged along to help fly the drone in tight spaces. FBLA heads to district leadership contest in early February to present their videos, websites, and speeches to judges.
New officers were named recently to the Worth County FBLA for the 2021-2022 school year. Aivry Griffin was named President, while Drew Welch and Taylor Sanders were named Vice Presidents. Ali Brown was named Treasurer, while Hailey Adwell was named Secretary.
The Worth County Chapter of FBLA recently attended District Leadership Conference through an online format. Each year students are able to compete in a variety of competitive events over various business topics. Many students took online objective tests while other students created websites, videos, and presentations. After submitting their projects, the students then had to record their presentations and submit a video rather than the traditional performance. State and National Conferences will be held in this similar digital format.

Officers for the Worth County FBLA have been named for 2020. They are Jill Hardy (President), Tate Welch (Vice President of Contests), Keelin Engel (Vice President of Service Projects), Aivry Griffin (Secretary), and Taylor Sanders (Treasurer).
The FBLA will have its annual kick-off event on Thursday, October 1st at the softball field following the East vs. West softball game. There will be pizza and kickball for grades 9 through 12. Any student who is interested in learning more about FBLA is invited to attend.
