More 138th Hopkins Picnic Details Released

More details have been released for the 138th Hopkins Picnic that will be held August 27th to 29th.

Thursday, August 27th will start with a pet show and Safety Alley at 5:00 pm. The Working Hands Showcase will be from 5 pm to 10 pm that evening. The Little Mr. & Miss Hopkins contest will be on the main stage at 7:00 pm. Train Wrek will perform at 8:00 pm. It is free and open to the public.

Friday, August 28th will start with the Working Hands Showcase from 5 pm to 10 pm. The Gramps and Granny Baby Show will be held 6:00 at the Roxy. A free show by Martin Sims will be at 8:00 pm.

Saturday, August 29th will start with a 5K run/walk with registration at 7:00 am and start time at 7:45 am. Registration will be at the corner of JJ and 148. A breakfast will follow outside of the Community Building from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. The Parade will be at 11:00 am. A car, truck, tractor, ATV, and UTV show will be held at 12 noon along with a meal in the park. An ice cream social will be held in the park.

At 3:00 pm, there will be a cornhole tournament. The Kids Pedal Pull will be at 5:00 pm. From 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the Working Hands Showcase will be held. At 7:00 pm, the Male Beauty Pageant will be held on the stage; the Phil Forney Band will perform at 8:00 pm on the main stage. It will be free. At 10:00 pm, there will be a prize drawing.

There will be daily events such as music, games, raffles, food, bingo, and cake walks.

The Little Mr. & Miss Hopkins Contest is once again open to children who will be in the North Nodaway PK and Kindergarten class this year. Registration forms must be turned in to Rick’s Country Shoppe or emailed to Sara Coleman at scoleman83@gmail.com by August 17th.

The contest will begin on Thursday, August 27th at 7:00 pm at the main stage. Contestants should be there by 6:45 pm.

In order to make the pageant fair for everyone, they are asking that contestants wear semi-formal clothing. In other words, no long dresses or tuxedos. On the other hand, it would be best not to wear jeans and a t-shirt.

Judges are chosen from outside the community, and contestants will be evaluated on appearance, friendliness, and interview.

Responsibilities include participating in the Hopkins Picnic Parade Saturday morning, North Nodaway homecoming, and to crown next year’s Little Mr. & Miss 2027.
