Allendale Levy Renewal on Ballot

The ballots in the last issue omitted the Allendale levy renewal. It is a 20-cent levy renewal for the city. This is not a new tax increase, but a renewal of an existing levy.

The election will be on April 7th. Polls will open at 6 am and close at 7 pm.

The Worth County School Board will not have an election this year. There were three positions open this year and only three candidates filed. Michael Mullock, Adam Downing, and Jared Harding will be sworn in at the April Worth County School Board meeting.

Bill Glenn, Keith Lambert Sworn in to Allendale Council

Bill Glenn and Keith Lambert were sworn in to the Allendale City Council at their regular meeting Monday.

The council passed a franchise agreement with KCP&L that will cover the next 20 years. Dan Hegeman was there representing the electric company.

Work has begun on excavating a new home in town.

Joe Hertl reported that if the weather holds up that some painting work would be done.

Hertl also announced his resignation from the Transportation Advisory Committee. He said that he would stay on until a representative was found to take his place. Hertl and the city will find someone to replace him.

It was reported that one picnic table was cracked, but that the rest were all structurally sound even though they have been in the Allendale Park for the last 20+ years.

The next council meeting will be June 13th at 7 p.m.

Allendale Pitches In for Basketball Court

A new basketball court is being constructed in Allendale to replace the old one that was replaced by the gazebo. It is on the north side of the shelter house. The pole and the gravel and concrete have been poured in and they are waiting on warmer weather to put up the goal. The Allendale Park Board and the Allendale Breakfast Club and the City of Allendale paid for the project; the city council voted to pay for the gravel and the paint at the city council meeting Monday.

There was $14,206.05 in the General Revenue Fund and $1,507.52 in the sewer fund plus several thousand dollars worth of CD's. That was helped this month by $1,000 worth of sewer payments. Policy on late payments was discussed; customers who do not pay their sewer bills by the 21st of each month are disconnected under city policy.

Following putting up the goal, the next task will be to rake and to put in the grass seed. Kevin Harding will come with a loader and paint the pole.

Volunteers will move the picnic tables at the Rodeo Grounds so that it can be mowed this summer.

Bill Calhoon reported that there would be new requirements for the water testing requirements. He will have to test a sample coming into the system and one coming out of the system. The tests will be for grease, ammmonias, and solids and the state will be looking for if there are more such samples coming out of the system than coming in.

The next meeting will be on May 9th at 7:00 at the Community Building.
