Jaxcynn Hansel paced three Shamrocks in double figures as North Harrison used a big second quarter to power its way to a 44-12 win over Lamoni Thursday, December 18th. She paced the Shamrocks with 12 points, while Lani Briggs and Ava Rinehart had 11. Hali Smith, although not one of the leading scorers, was disruptive with 10 boards, 13 tips, and six steals, getting her big paws in the passing lanes all night long.
Addison Milligan hit Lani Briggs, who finished with a drive to start the Shamrocks off. Jaxcynn Hansel got loose after Hali Smith fed her after Ava Rinehart got a steal. Addison Milligan got loose for two after Ava Rinehart got a steal and Hali Smith got a tip. Jaxcynn Hansel converted a fifth-chance putback after the Shamrocks controlled the boards. Ava Rinehart hit Lani Briggs in transition to make it 10-0.
The Demons, with only six players, four of them freshmen or sophomores, started fighting back with Persephone Fairsky hitting a 3-pointer after getting Lamoni on the board with a free throw to cut it to 10-4. But then Jaxcynn Hansel got the hot hand in the second quarter, starting with an inside shot off a pass from Hali Smith and a free throw. Addison Milligan scored after Hali Smith got a steal, and then Hansel knocked one down from the high post. Addison Milligan cleaned up after a steal and layup try went astray. Jaxcynn Hansel got a free throw, then Ava Rinehart scored off an Addison Milligan steal. Lani Briggs scored off a steal, and then Hali Smith scored off an Ava Rinehart steal. By the time the dust had settled in the second quarter, North Harrison was up 26-4 at the half and had held Lamoni scoreless. Ten of their 16 points in the period came off steals.
Ava Rinehart had the hot hand in the third quarter as she scored off a steal, a 3-pointer from the wing, and a fast break after Addison Milligan set her up with a blocked shot. Lani Briggs converted a steal at the third quarter buzzer to make it 37-9.
Lani Briggs hit a 3-pointer with 6:07 left in the game to trigger the running clock.
