Lindsey Jackson Fans 10 as Shorthanded Bluejays Hold Off Wildcards

Northeast Nodaway raised their record to 7-2, but once again, they had to survive a cliffhanger to do it. They were shorthanded, playing without Brianna Meyer (flu) and once again, like they have the last three years, they took the other team's best shot and survived 5-4 over Stewartsville/Osborn. Lindsey Jackson struck out 10 Stewartsville/Osborn batters and went the distance to get the win as Northeast was saving Hadley DeFreece for the Stanberry Tournament.

The Bluejays struck first as Jill Boswell reached on an error with two outs in the first and stole second and Hailey Yost singled her in. They added to their lead in the third when Hadley DeFreece walked, stole second, got a delayed steal of third, and came home on Jill Boswell's groundout to make it 2-0.

But when nobody called Chloe Ramsey's pop fly to start the Wildcard fourth and it dropped, that gave them hope and then it was a brand new ballgame. Another error put Ramsey on second, then Haydyn Campbell's grounder advanced her to third, and she came home on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

From there, Northeast had to fight and scrap the rest of the way. While they put the ball in play, everything they hit was right at someone, so they had to manufacture everything they could get. The Bluejays got the run back in the fourth when Makenzie Pride walked, took second on a wild pitch, and then Sasha Deardorff singled her to third; Pride had to hold up to make sure the ball wasn't caught. Mylee Wilmes grounded out to get her home.

But Stewartsville/Osborn started adjusting to Jackson, being much more patient at the plate and laying off the high heat and getting much better pitches to hit. Their new approach paid off in the fifth when Jaelin Hahn singled to left and went all the way to third when the ball went under Blair Nelson's legs. Sasha Deardorff lost Ella Schope's screamer in the sun and it dropped for a double to cut it to 3-2.

And then Alissa Francis walked to start the Wildcard sixth, went to second on a passed ball, went to third on Addie Jackson's groundout, and scored on a wild pitch to knot it up at 3-3.

But somehow, the Bluejays found a way to fight back and regain control. For the third time this year, they lost the lead late in a game only to find a way to come back and win. Makenzie Pride doubled, and Lindsey Jackson bobbled. But in yet another baserunning mishap, a passed ball rolled away, but not far enough for Pride to advance and she was out on a close play as Jackson took second. Sasha Deardorff reached on an error as the shortstop threw the ball away to score Jackson and put Deardorff on second. She took third on a wild pitch and scored on Mylee Wilmes' groundout, her second sacrifice of the game, to put Northeast up 5-3.

But the heart of the order was up for the Wildcards, and with one out, Jaelin Hahn doubled down the left field line, Elia Schwope beat out an infield hit, and Chloe Ramsey singled to cut it to 5-4 and put runners on first and second. But then Alissa Francis grounded out to Jill Boswell at short as the runners advanced and Addie Jackson grounded out to Lindsey Jackson for the final out.
