Worth County’s boys avenged an earlier loss to King City with a 55-48 win last Tuesday, January 31st. When asked the difference between the two games, coach Les New said that rebounding was the big difference. Worth County gave up 18 offensive boards to King City the first time and only seven against a much taller squad the second time. Rebounding woes have been a problem for the boys squad, and they had only 14 total against Albany. But the rebounding greatly improved in the King City game and the subsequent win over Princeton.
The Tigers had been coming close in previous games, but could not get over the hump. They went on the road and took Rock Port to overtime before losing 42-40. Then, they took Nodaway Valley to overtime before losing again, 58-49.
Against King City, Worth County took a big early lead, lost it, but then fought their way back to regain the lead. Despite 7 for 15 shooting from the free throw line, Worth County was able to close it out at the end.
Tyler New had 33 points. Karson Briner had a career night for him with 6 points. Tanner Ridge and John Galanakis also had 6. Cannon Fletcher had 4.
Karson Briner and Tyler New had 10 boards each. John Galanakis had 7, Levi Cassavaugh 2, and Cannon Fletcher 1.
Tanner Ridge and Levi Cassavaugh had 5 assists each. Tyler New had 2, and John Galanakis 1.
Tyler New had 4 steals. John Galanakis had 3, Karson Briner 2, and Cannon Fletcher 1.
Karson Briner had 1 block.
Worth County took care of the ball, only committing 8 turnovers. They kept King City off the line, only committing 9 fouls. Karson Briner took a charge on defense. John Galanaksi had 4 tips; Tanner Ridge had 3, Levi Cassavaugh 2, and Tyler New 1.
