Tiger JH Boys Pull Away in Second Half for 38-33 Victory Over NEN

Worth County’s Junior High boys broke open a tight game in the third quarter and then held off Northeast’s attempts to rally as they came away with a 38-33 win Thursday.

It looked like Northeast would take control early as Brayden Munns went backdoor and Ben Boswell added a drive and a shot from the high post to make it 6-2. Worth County’s only counter was a coast to coast layup from Aydan Gladstone, who split two defenders to do so.

But then Grant Cameron hit a 3-pointer off a pass from Aydan Gladstone to spark Worth County the rest of the period. Munns hit a free throw, but Gladstone countered with a baseline triple and Jackson Runde went coast to coast on one play and went backdoor and got a pass from Gladstone to put Worth County up 12-7 after one.

Northeast kept the game close in the second quarter, but could never catch up. Munns cleaned up on a Boswell steal early to break Worth County’s run. Grant Cameron went backdoor and got a pass off a Gladstone steal, but Boswell scored off a drive to make it 14-11. The teams traded buckets for the rest of the half, with Worth County staying in front 20-17.

The Tigers finally broke open the game in the third quarter as Jackson Runde scored off a steal. Grant Cameron hit two free throws off a drive, Jackson Smith hit one from the left baseline in transition as Aydan Gladstone got him the ball, and Gladstone hit two free throws to make it 28-17. Worth County scored the first eight points in a span of just 1:38. Munns scooped a carom and drew a foul for a free throw to break the run, but Jackson Runde’s inside shot off a pass from Grant Cameron gave Worth County its biggest lead at 32-20.

Northeast finally got going again to start the fourth as Austin Pride scored from inside twice and Ben Boswell hit two free throws to make it 32-26, but then Jackson Runde hit a free throw after getting loose in transition with 3:45 and Aydan Gladstone grabbed the ensuing offensive glass and hit Runde in the high post area to break the run, and Northeast never got closer than the final score.

For Worth County, Jackson Runde led the team with 15 points. Aydan Gladstone had 9, Grant Cameron had 8, and Jackson Smith had 6. Aydan Gladstone had 6 assists.

For Northeast, Ben Boswell had 14 points. Brayden Munns had 6, Austin Pride had 5, Dylan McIntyre 4, and Zach Pride and Dawson Vore 2.
