Denise J. Counsell. 47, temporarily of Manly, IA passed away at her home October 31, 2017.
Denise was the daughter of Maurice "Skip" Counsell and JoAnn Sheldon Counsell, both of whom preceded her in death. Denise was a graduate of Riceville, IA High School, Luther College in Decorah, IA and Midwestern University in Chicago with a Master's in Physician's Assistant.
After being diagnosed with a severe form of Celiac disease, Denise spent her time working with her church, other community service work, and quite a lot of time helping with Worth County choral productions from sewing costumes with Jim's sister Kim (1956-2016) and our other fantastic volunteers for casts of 40 in Swing Choir to musical casts of over 100. And regardless of her Celiac's she could often be found in dinner theatre kitchens turning out and decorating an extraordinary number of cakes. She also tirelessly raised money to send Worth County to Carnegie Hall in 2007.
Denise is survived by her step father of the home, Gene Squire, (whom she gave full credit for being her father), sister Merry Spiers (Jim) and niece Merrideth of Grant City; brother Donald Counsell (Shelly), nephews Derek and Cole Counsell, Orchard, IA; twin sister Deanna (Mark) Muth of Delano, MN; and half sister Heather (Pete) Rysavy and nephews Logan and Grayson of St. Ansgar, IA.
A memorial service will be held at a later date under the advisement of Champion-Bucheit funeral home of Osage, IA.
