Worth County’s junior high girls got their first victory of the season, beating Northeast Nodaway Thursday 25-6. Both teams came into the match winless, but Northeast got into early foul trouble and could not get out of the hole as two of their starters went to the bench in the first five minutes of the game.
In the meantime, they had nobody to match up with Alison Anderson, who banked one home early and scored four points as Worth County built up a 9-0 lead after one. Aivry Griffin added a free throw after an offensive board, and Hailey Adwell hit a shot from the left wing and another from the top of the key. Taylor Sanders had two assists in the period, while Ali Brown and Aivry Griffin had one each.
Alison Anderson’s putback with 5:19 left in the second was countered as Lauren McIntyre hit from the high post with 2:43 left to finally put Northeast on the board off a pass from Jaden Atkins. But then Aivry Griffin got a putback, as did Olivia Kanak to put Worth County in control at 15-2.
Worth County held Northeast scoreless in the third as Ali Brown got a putback and Taylor Sanders hit Alison Anderson in the high post and Hailey Adwell on the left wing to make it 21-2. Hailey Adwell got to double digits as Taylor Sanders kicked one out to her in the high post and the Alison Anderson kicked one out to her on the left wing. Northeast finally got some points on the board as Meredith Adwell and Jaden Atkins both hit from the right baseline in the last two minutes.
For Worth County, Hailey Adwell had 10 points and Alison Anderson 8. Aivry Griffin had 3, and Olivia Kanak and Ali Brown had 2 each. Taylor Sanders had four assists.
