Rachael Gardner Homers in JV Victory

Worth County's JV picked up a 5-2 victory in Tuesday's nightcap against South Harrison as Rachael Gardner's two-run tiebreaking homer put the Tigers in front to stay. Both Gardner and Assistant Coach Tyler Miyashiro have fan clubs this year. The football boys have nicknamed him, "Uncle T" and cheer him as he walks on and off the field. While Uncle T can't play, Gardner can; she had her own fan club comprised of Kristen Ross and Reagan Drury at the game to cheer her on. While she has a way to go before she reaches the level of Babe Ruth, her wallop in the second left no doubt; it was the first time Worth County had ever hit an over the fence homer at their park since they put up the 200 foot fence for softball games. Rikky Hunt singled in Sidney Troutwine for Worth County's final run of the inning.

Troutwine came in to pitch in the third inning to relieve Payton Adwell and Carley Wilhelm greeted her with a screamer hit all the way to the wall in left as her bid to duplicate Gardner's hit came up just short. South Harrison couldn't move her as the charm of the five-leaf clover and the four-leaf clovers held -- Maddie Lathrum and Emily Starmer grounded out and Tayla Doolittle popped out, and Troutwine picked up the save.

Abbi Caddenhead grounded out to score Troutwine in the first and Kennedy Galanakis scored on a wild pitch to put Worth County up 2-0. Keagan Madison doubled to left to score Brooklyn Virtue and came home on a delayed steal and wild throw to tie it at 2.

Summing up the two games, Coach Dave Gilland said, "You jumped on them early and didn't let them in the game." He said that the defense had improved and said that Victoria Moore and Dominique Findley played well in the field. There was only one called third strike in both games for the Tigers.
