Bryce Schafer has been coaching basketball since he joined the Worth County school district. Now, he is trying his hand at coaching softball; he played baseball collegiately. "They've been doing everything I asked them to and more," he said of his charges. On Tuesday, in Bethany, they got their first win, 12-8 over South Harrison after holding off a frantic Bulldog rally in the last inning.
Braidy Hunt was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, pitching in her first game as a 7th grader. Anna Gladstone pitched the fourth. Anna Spainhower was 2 for 2 for the Tigers; Kaylee McElvain and Merideth Spiers drove in two runs each. Jill Hardy and Morgan Beagle had one each.
South Harrison led 3-2 after one inning, but Worth County scored one in the second and three in the third to take a 6-3 lead. South Harrison closed to 6-5, but Worth County scored six in the top of the fourth before South Harrison tried to rally with three runs before falling short.
