NEN Accepts Resignation, Hires Parent Educator, Counselor

The Northeast Nodaway School Board, at its regular June 29th, 2023 meeting, accepted the resignation of Kyndall Porter as a Paraprofessional. The board hired Hayston Wilson as an Immediate Responsive Services Grant Counselor and Mandy Adwell as a part time Parent Educator for the Parents as Teachers program.

The board kept the out of district tuition rate at $12,750 for the upcoming school year.

For the preschool, the board set rates as follows:

–Full Price – $13 per day per child for a total of $2,132;

–Reduced Price – $11 per day per child for a total of $1,804;

–Free Price – $9 per day per child for a total of $1,476.

Families with multiple children are expected to pay for each child. Prices are determined by free and reduced lunch applications. Fulltime NEN employees are charged the free price.

The after-school care fees were left the same for the 2023-24 school year. The fees will be $4 per hour with a $15 registration fee for the first child and $5 for each additional child per family. All charges and fees are waived for fulltime NEN employees.

The school received two bids for the 2023-24 diesel fuel, from MFA Oil and Consumers Oil Company. The school voted to approve the bid from Consumers Oil Company.

The school got a quote from Jeannes Distribution to change 403 light fixtures to LED. The quote was $9,770, including a rebate from Evergy. The board voted to accept the deal.

The board voted to raise substitute pay from $85 per day to $100 per day for the 2023-24 school year.

Principal Heidi Beatty reported that athletic teams have been attending camps, shootouts, speed & agility drills, and more. There has been an open library time two times a week. Some elementary teachers have been holding tutoring sessions, and Mrs. Trickel has been working with some high school students taking online coursework.

Master schedules for teachers have been made and updated.

Nine teachers completed their first day of LETRS training. This provides in-depth training on language and literacy instructional skills. They are in a cohort with Jefferson and Stanberry teachers.

Superintendent Brenda Dougan reported that custodians were doing regular maintenance around the building. A new carpet is scheduled to be installed in the old Business room. The ball field storeroom has been cleaned up and organized, with new shelves built.

The school is getting an estimate for permanent speakers and cable for NFHS camera installation.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has provided an air purifier and two filters for each room in the building. The school has received a shipment of 30 units.

The eRate proposal to refresh and add some switches has been approved. The licenses expire this year.

ACES has a new director for the 23-24 school year. Paula Chambers is the new director. The special education teachers are working to create a special education process manual which will be shared with the staff in August.

Dougan will serve as the President of the Northwest Missouri branch of the Missouri Association of School Administrators. They will be learning how to train and prepare their staff in CPR.
