Courthouse News for November 30th, 2022

On November 22nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated a fatal accident south of Hopkins (See Page 1 of the November 30th issue).

On November 22nd, the Worth County Sheriff’s Department investigated a wreck at around 10 pm that partially blocked traffic on 46 one mile west of Grant City.

On November 23rd, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Amy Force (31) of King City alleging DWI (Felony), Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident), No Valid License, and On Insurance.

On November 23rd, at around 11 pm, two emergency vehicles with sirens activated came through Sheridan headed west.

On November 23rd, Walter Hartwig, a freshman at Putnam County, collapsed at practice. He was life flighted to Des Moines.

On November 25th, the Iowa State Highway Patrol reported that a 15 year old girl from Benton (IA) was driving on highway 33 south of Diagonal with two juvenile passengers at around 7 pm when she swerved to avoid deer in the roadway. She lost control of the vehicle, which went into a ditch and rolled. She was partially ejected from the vehicle and was partially pinned under the vehicle, which landed on its top. She was killed in the wreck.

On November 26th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested David McGary (25) of Maryville in Nodaway County on a charge of DWI.

On November 26th, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department reported that they had received a call regarding a burned vehicle with a deceased victim in a farm field 3-4 miles east of Leon. Neither the vehicle nor the victim had been identified as of Monday morning.

On November 26th at around 9:15 pm, six loud banging noises were heard in Sheridan.

On November 26th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against William McCrea (31) of King City alleging DWI, Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident), and Failure to Register.

On November 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2014 Toyota Highlander driven by Leetta Yoder (25) of Maryville and a 2000 Ford Expedition driven by Sarah Germann (41) of Council Bluffs were both northbound on Route 71 at around 10:35 am. The Patrol says that the Toyota was stopped in the northbound lane of 71 at Galaxy Road near Wilcox waiting for traffic to clear in order to make a left turn when she was struck in the rear by the Ford. Yoder received moderate injuries and was taken to Dr. Dallas Mullock. Germann received minor injuries and was taken to Mosaic in Maryville.

On November 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Michael Shovick (30) of Blythedale in Harrison County on a Harrison County Warrant for Failure to Appear (Traffic Violation).

On November 28th, a Hopkins resident reported they were rearended when they were attempting to turn left at the junction of 71 and 136 near Burlington Junction.

On November 29th, a female Shepherd mix dog was found near the water plant in Hopkins with a collar, but no tags or chip. She was taken to the New Nodaway Humane Society.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
