Worth County's boys are still searching for their first win of the year despite a 24-point performance from Brevyn Ross Friday night as the boys fell to Gallatin 67-49. The boys hung with Gallatin until late in the first half, but then faded away. There were six ties in the early going as neither team took control early. Gallatin erased an 8-6 lead with an 8-0 run late in the first quarter, but Brevyn Ross' drive early in the second tied it back up at 14. Josh Warner was playing his best game of the year, getting to the basket and running the floor; he set a new varsity career high with 6 points, all in the first half.
Finally, a couple of late lapses by the Tigers swung the game permanently in Gallatin's favor; they failed to match up on defense on consecutive plays, allowing easy layups by the Bulldogs. They subsequently got a steal off the press to go ahead 31-22 at the half.
At the half, FCCLA Sponsor Jonell Cook allowed students who donated to help cure Spina Bifida to tie her to the wall on the south end of the gym with duct tape.
Chris Alarcon got four in the third quarter to help Brevyn, who was doing all he could to keep the Tigers in the game. But Gallatin scored the first eight points of the third quarter and led by as much as 23 in the frame. Worth County finally got some steals and got their transition game going and came as close as 11, but it was too late to avoid yet another loss.
Brevyn shot 11 for 18 from the field. Truman Moore had 11 boards for the night.
The girls got off to a promising start, jumping out to an 8-3 lead against Gallatin. But Gallatin's speed began to tell after that and the game quickly turned into a layup drill for them as they won 76-33. Kaitlyn Davidson got a season high 18 points for the Tigers. Sydney Thummel followed with 11 points along with 5 for 7 shooting from the free throw line. Claire Andrews followed with 5.
