The Worth County Convalescent Center is down to 21 residents and had a -$14,000 loss in their most recent profit and loss statement, the WCCC board learned at their regular board meeting last Wednesday. Administrator Karen Fletchall said that they were in regular contact with hospitals and discharge planners through faxes, calls, and personal visits and were working with different agencies as well. Board President Scott Houk said that there were several reasons that the facility was declining in census numbers, including declining population, parents moving out of the area to be near their children who had moved out of the area, and new rules allowing assisted facilities to keep patients who had otherwise been required to go to skilled facilities in the past.
The board reviewed a draft policy regarding contracts with licensed professionals and therapists. They will look it over and revisit it next month.
Room renovations are still on hold as the facility is seeking to hire a carpenter.
The board discussed facility licenses that they could get from the state. They discussed different types of licenses available and will get more information on each one.
A visitor, Jean Hanks, requested raises for employees for the facility. The board will take up the issue next month.
The board went to closed session to discuss personnel and contracts. Following the closed session, a motion to terminate services with MCA failed by a 4-1 vote with one member abstaining.
Two candidates have filed for the WCCC election. Patti Spainhower filed for election for the East Fletchall township spot. Incumbent Anthony Steinhauser did not file for reelection. Incumbent Mike Hall of Smith Township (Allendale) has filed for reelection.
The facility has hired Stephanie Klippenstein to be the new Physical Therapy Assistant. She will work part time on Mondays and Wednesdays. The facility is in the process of hiring another PTA. The previous one resigned to return to her home.
