Don Leroy King, 78 of Grant City, Missouri passed away on April 6, 2012 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born on March 30, 1934, southwest of Redding, Iowa to Chester King and Opal Thomas King. He was the third of six children.
Don was raised farming north of Grant City. He graduated from Grant City High School in 1952. He was called to serve in the Army in 1956 where he served 18 months in Korea.
Don married Vera Suter on June 5, 1960. They purchased a farm north of Grant City where they lived their entire married lives. Don loved his God, his family and his farming. He ran a dairy for 40 years, raised hogs and crops. He was happiest when he was on his tractor singing at the top of his lungs. He was saved when he was 13 at the Fletchall United Brethern Church, Grant City.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Ada Fletchall, two brothers-in-law: Roy O’Banion and Terry Wintjen; one son-in-law: John Baker.
He is survived by his wife Vera of the home and three children: Karen (Marvin) Bohling of Johnson, NE, Alan (Robin) King of Carrolton, IL, Judy (Wayne) Hayes of Grant City, MO. Don has 10 grandchildren: Jeremiah, Chester (Alexis) and Sarah Bohling, Benjamen (Marie), Zachariah, Jacob, Isaac, and Hannah King, and Patricia and David Baker. Don has two great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Scott. He is also survived by four sisters: Chesteen Stuck, Ruby Goff, Bertha O’Banion, and Mary Wintjen; several nieces nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and two aunts; Hazel Thomas and Catherine King.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Grant City Baptist Church with Interment in the Fletchall Cemetery near Grant City. Visitation Sunday, April 8, 2012 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City. Memorials can be given to the Fletchall Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
