Following the announcement that there will be no funding for pork-barrel projects in appropriations legislation this Congress, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, a long-time advocate for ending the practice of earmarking, made the following statement.
“This is a big victory for earmark reform. The American people are frustrated with the way Congress spends money. Today’s announcement that there will be no earmarks this Congress is a great step towards making some of the hard choices we need to get our fiscal house in order.”
Since arriving in the Senate in 2007, McCaskill has introduced and supported numerous pieces of legislation to reform or eliminate the practice of earmarking. She has never requested an earmark. Read more about her record here.
