Fire Destroys Home in Hopkins at 4th & Morehouse

Sheridan fire units were called to Hopkins to help with a blaze that destroyed a home at 4th & Morehouse in Hopkins today (Thursday). The Nodaway County Sheriff said that it was a possible wood pellet stove fire although they did not know for sure. Sheridan fire units were called to the scene a little before 2 p.m. today. The home was owned by Shanna McNeely and her son, a junior in high school, lived there. Witnesses reported not seeing anything as late as 1 p.m. before the home suddenly became engulfed in smoke. It was the fourth home to burn in Hopkins this year; three were totally destroyed while the fourth was damaged but repaired. The fire was investigated by the Sheridan, Hopkins, and Union Township Fire Departments, Nodaway County Sheriff's Department, and Nodaway County Ambulance. There were no injuries. The home was not insured.
