The Sheridan CBC will be holding its Relay for Life fundraisers in April. The first event will be on April 13 at the community hall; it will be a beef and noodle dinner and all proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
The second event will be on April the 19th at Jim’s Friendly Tavern. A supper of fried tacos will start at 5:30 p.m. and there will be an auction, raffle prizes, games, dancing, and lots of fun. The waitresses tips will all go to Relay along with food and auction money. To donate auction items please contact Mary Jo Hawk @ 660-799-2259 or Sherry Evans @660-799-3915.

Sheridan News for April 2nd
Easter brought many visitors to Sheridan. Guests of Lynna Hoover on Saturday evening were; Dale and Teresa Winemiller, Rolla MO, Shawn and Lucretia Eaton, Mikayla and Allie of Rolla MO, Andrea Winemiller and Jason Ballew of Kansas City, MO Richard and Sandy Meredith, Kerri Meredith of Bedford, IA, Jason Meredith of Fairfield, OH, Bill, Frankie, and Jared Staton, Cody Staton and Arlene Carroll all of Sheridan, David, Cathy and John Cottrell of Ft. Madison, IA and Geneveive Walker of Sheridan.
John Young visited with his Mother Icle Young. also visiting with Icle over the Easter holiday were Cathy and John Cottrell from Fort Madison IA. Amber Hawk visited with Icle on Saturday March 29. Amber teaches at Maryville and had time off so Icle was glad she thought about her.

WCCC News for April 2nd
Monday morning here we started our week with fresh manicures and coffee. The manicures continue throughout the day. We hear about the polish and polish remover smell frequently on manicure day. In the afternoon we had a Coca-Cola taste test, and discussed John Pemberton, chemist, first advertising this drink in 1886. The residents were evenly divided on the taste they preferred. Lime and vanilla were new tastes for some here. Becky and friends were here for Bible Stories in the late afternoon.
Tuesday morning we had teatime and lots of conversation. In the afternoon Rev. Edd Worley of the Christian Church and Martha held church services and provided communion.
Wednesday afternoon we had our weekly Bingo games. Following Bingo we have drinks and visit awhile.

Friday morning was coffee and conversation time. We discussed American Presidents. We have some history buffs here. Jean brought out the Funk & Wagnalls book, The Presidents, to settle some questions. In the afternoon we had game time. Ten point pitch and dominoes were the games of choice.
Sunday School is taught by Shirley Pierce of the Baptist Church. Afternoon services are to be with the Isadora Church of Christ.

Glyphosate Prices Increase
The increase in glyphosate resistant corn and the number of soybean acres using glyphosate technology has driven the market to use glyphosate products in a majority of crop acres in Northwest Missouri. Generic glyphosate products have been in the market place which provided an opportunity for lower costs. However, this season, this is not the case.
The Brand name glyphosates which may have cost around $40 per gallon have almost doubled. The generic glyphosates, which were priced less, have also doubled. This leads to many growers concerned about this price increase and how to best manage glyphosate products.
Research from the University of Missouri indicates that generic glyphosates will perform as well Brand name Roundup in weed control. This research matches that from other Land-Grant Universities and Extension Services.

County Commission Minutes for March 31st
Meeting was called to order at 9:00 am by Presiding Commissioner. Members present: Mozingo and Waldeier; Calhoon – absent.
1. Commissioner Waldeier made a motion to approve the March 24th minutes. Commissioner Mozingo seconded. Motion carried.
2. Commissioner Waldeier made a motion to approve the agenda. Commissioner Mozingo seconded. Motion carried.
3. Commissioner Waldeier made a motion to approve and pay bills. Commissioner Mozingo seconded. Motion carried.
4. Linda Brown, County Treasurer gave financial reports.
5. Vernon and Marla Coy, rural residents of Middlefork Township, came to the commission to discuss roads and bridge programs.
6. Commissioners reviewed the road reports from MoDOT; the total road mileage for Worth County is 295.70; Gravel or Stone is 206.5 miles, low type bituminous is 3.3 miles; high type bituminous is .10; total surfaced is 209.9; graded and drained is 74.90 and unimproved is 10.9. This information is from a 2005 report. MoDOT was contacted to get an updated report.
7. Duane Warner, rural resident of East Fletchall Township, came to the commission to discuss old 169 thru Irena.

10. Charity Austin, Worth County Economic Developer came to the Commissioner with a letter concerning Worth County Convalescent Center’s status. After discussion Commissioner Waldeier made a motion to sign the letter. Commissioner Mozingo seconded. Motion carried and letter signed.
11. Leonard Roush, requested that county road 97 be worked on as soon as possible; the roadbed needs to be raised. Jim Fletchall, road supervisor will investigate.
12. Commissioner Calhoon reported tubes washed out on road 255 east of Randall Bakers; on road 259 east of the Wilkinson Bridge, there is a hole that needs rock. East of the Miller Cemetary, road 188 has a bad tube at the east end of Miller Cemetery. Nella Malone requests brush removal cost sharing on road 234.

The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the 5th Annual Relay For Life of Worth County, which will be held July 18th and 19th, 2008 at the Frank B. Matteson, MD Memorial Field . This year's theme is "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity. Let's Go Racin' for a Cure!"
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature fundraising activity. Teams of 8 to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Relay For Life unites friends, families, businesses, health care, schools and churches....people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer. It is a fun-filled overnight event that mobilizes communities to Celebrate survivors, Remember loved ones, and raise money for the Fight Back against cancer.
Survivors, loved ones, friends, co-workers, youth groups, civic organizations and the public are invited to take part in this exciting team event.
