Worth County Relay for Life Kickoff March 28th

Worth County Relay for Life will be having their kickoff meeting March 28th from 5-7 p.m. at the Worth County Computer Lab (Amy Garrett's room) at the Worth County School. There are important changes that will be made and information about these changes will be shared at that meeting.

There will be free registration of teams for that night only. Teams should bring a list of team members, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, t-shirt sizes, and survivors. Cost for teams registering after March 28th will be $6 per team member.

There will be extra people there to help make registration fast and easy. There will be a map of the track to help teams pick their desired campsite for this year. The meeting will be for anyone who is interested in helping with Relay this year in any way, not just for teams. This includes sponsors, survivors, and volunteers.

Sheridan Christian Church News for July 16th, 2008

Relay for Life will be this Friday night, July 18th at the Worth County High School Football Field. Hope there will be a good turnout supporting this worthy cause of fighting cancer.
The community will certainly miss Bill Lantz. He was a handyman who could fix about anything, and lots of folks knew they could count on him. Our sympathies are with Joan and the rest of the family.
Elaine Mitchell and her sister Ellen Hunt spent a few days last week visiting their children and grandchildren in Indiana. Elaine’s grandson, Caleb, celebrated his first birthday.
Gary Dean Constant is recovering from open heart surgery last week. I’m sure he’d appreciate cards. He lives in Hopkins. We’re praying for his speedy recovery.
Treva Smyser plans to shampoo carpets at church on Saturday, August 2nd. Anyone who can help will be much appreciated.
We enjoyed seeing lots of old friends at the Gravity All School Reunion last weekend in Bedford. I graduated from Gravity 49 years ago, the last class to graduate from Gravity before consolidating with Bedford in 1960. Where have the years gone?

Relay for Life to be held July 18th

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life-Worth County will be held Friday, July 18 at 7:00 pm at the Frank B. Matteson MD Memorial Field in Grant City, MO. A special luminaria ceremony during the event remembers those lost to cancer, and honors those who have survived. The luminaria candle lighting to represent these individuals will commence at dusk, or approximately 9:40 pm. At this ceremony, each name will be read for which a luminaria has been purchased. There will be something new and special about the luminaria this year. If you have never attended this ceremony, we encourage you to come; if you have been to one, we encourage you to return, as it truly is a moving event, plus come see the new look.
Anyone wanting to purchase a luminaria may do so by contacting any Relay Team Captain, Team Member, Relay Committee Member, or by contacting Christina Charles, Karen Fletchall or Lola Claypool. Each luminaria is $5. If you would like to decorate or personalize your purchased luminaria, contact Christina Charles at 660-564-3782. The deadline for teams to turn in their luminaria orders is July 14th. However, luminaria can continue to be purchased at the event until 7:00 pm and be included in the ceremony.

At last year’s Relay For Life-Worth County 2,021 luminaria lined the track. Won’t you help to surpass this number in 2008?
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event. Teams of 8 to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Relay unites friends, families, co-workers, businesses, schools and churches -- people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, and hold fundraisers prior to, and at the Relay event; all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer. There are many delicious food choices available to buy at Relay, and are available to anyone attending the Relay, whether actively participating, or there to observe and support.
Relay For Life-Worth County invites all cancer survivors, no matter where you live, to join in the evening kick off: the official Survivors’ Lap. K&T to host Relay for Life Fundraiser

The K & T Fencing Team for the Worth County Relay for Life will be hosting an ATV Poker Run and supper on Saturday, June 14th for their fundraiser. Supper will include sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips, baked beans and brownies. Pop and water will also be furnished. The poker run and supper will be 2 miles east of Sheridan on Route F.
A hay wagon will be available also for anyone who wants to join in but doesn't want to drive or have an ATV. Registration begins at 3 p.m. with the poker run and supper following. There is a $15 registration fee which includes a meal ticket. The top 3 places will be paid. For more information call 660-562-4422 or 660-799-3366. Relay for Life Fundraiser in Sheridan May 31st

Relay For Life will be hosting a Fireman's Ball fundraiser on Saturday, May 31 at the Sheridan School Building. There will be a $10 cover charge at the door. Between 7 pm and 9 pm is a fish fry, from 9 p.m.-Midnight will be a dance and breakfast is available from 11 pm to when the cooks say done. This is a BYOB event, however non-alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase. No under-age 21 drinking will be strictly enforced. The food events are free-will donations.

Sheridan Christian Church Relay for Life Fundraiser May 24th

The Sheridan Christian Church will host a Relay for Life fundraiser at the Sheridan Schoolhouse on May 24th. The evening will kick off with a spaghetti supper and silent auction beginning at 5:00 p.m. A talent and comedy show will begin at 6:30 with a full lineup of great talent.
To go along with the "Let’s Go Racing for a Cure" theme this year, the Sheridan Christian Church team will hold a derby car race at the Relay in Grant City on July 18th. Derby car kits for the race will be available at the fundraiser on May 24th and at the Sheridan Christian Church booth in the Sheridan Park on Old Defiance Days, June 28th. Kits may also be purchased anytime from any one of the Sheridan Christian Church team members. The price of the kit is $5.
The team is also selling tee shirts to raise money for the cure. They are available at Main Street Cuts and The Sheridan Grocery store in Sheridan and at the Great Western Bank in Grant City for a $10 donation. If anyone would be interested in donating items, either new or used to the auction, it would be greatly appreciated. Items can be left in the Sheridan Christian Church fellowship hall, or you can contact Jeff Blaine, Mary Beth Taute, or Marcia Rush.
The church will also be hosting a tea and information meeting on breast cancer awareness May 12th at the Sheridan Christian Church in Sheridan. The tea will begin at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., Tammi Brundage from the American Cancer Society will be present to give information on breast cancer prevention and early detection and to answer any questions. Tammi will have forms that will simulate actual lumps. There is no cost for this event. We encourage all ladies to attend. This is great information that would be lifesaving.

Boys as Babes Softball Game in Bedford

The New Found Treasures Relay for Life team will be having a "Boys as Babes" softball game at the Bedford Baseball field in Bedford Sunday, April 27th at 2 p.m. They will be selling grilled hamburgers, walking tacos, hot dogs, popcorn, baked goods, pop, tea, and bottled water. All proceeds will go to the Worth County Relay for Life. They will also be selling Casey’s pizza cards and raffle tickets for a gas-grill patio set and quickshades.

Beef & Noodle Dinner Raises $300

We had an excellent turn out for the Relay for Life Beef and Noodle Dinner Fundraiser on April 13th. We made $300.00. Thank you to all who came out. We took leftovers to elderly in the Sheridan Area. We also had a Relay for Life fundraiser at Jim’s last Saturday. Thank you for all your support.

CBC Plans Relay for Life Events

The Sheridan CBC will be holding its Relay for Life fundraisers in April. The first event will be on April 13 at the community hall; it will be a beef and noodle dinner and all proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
The second event will be on April the 19th at Jim’s Friendly Tavern. A supper of fried tacos will start at 5:30 p.m. and there will be an auction, raffle prizes, games, dancing, and lots of fun. Relay for Life Looking for Teams

The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the 5th Annual Relay For Life of Worth County, which will be held July 18th and 19th, 2008 at the Frank B. Matteson, MD Memorial Field . This year's theme is "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity. Let's Go Racin' for a Cure!"
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature fundraising activity. Teams of 8 to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Relay For Life unites friends, families, businesses, health care, schools and churches....people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer. It is a fun-filled overnight event that mobilizes communities to Celebrate survivors, Remember loved ones, and raise money for the Fight Back against cancer.
Survivors, loved ones, friends, co-workers, youth groups, civic organizations and the public are invited to take part in this exciting team event. Team registration is currently going on, and you are encouraged to sign up now to qualify for the Early Bird Discount, which expires April 15, 2008. You can still register after that date, but the registration fee goes back to the non-discounted rate.

Team captains have a critical role in the Relay. A team captain meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 14th at 6:30 pm in the Grant City Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. All captains are requested to attend this meeting, bringing all necessary registration items you have obtained thus far. If a team captain cannot attend, it is suggested to have a team representative attend. Additional information will be available that night to help get you on the right track.
