Darlene Andrews 1929-2025

Darlene Louise Andrews, age 96, of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away on October 4, 2025, at her home in Osage Beach, Missouri. She was born on January 4, 1929, in Maryville, Missouri, and she was a daughter of Ava and Lena (Blake) Pistole. She was united in marriage to Ronald Andrews on February 12, 1950. They shared 52 years together at the time of his passing.

Darlene was born and raised in Nodaway County, Missouri.  She was a 75 year member and one of the founding members of the First Christian Church in Hopkins, Missouri. She was very active in the P.E.O. Chapter in Hopkins, Missouri.  She was known to many as “Squeak”, but to her family, she was known as Grandma. She loved to take care of her family, and she stood out as the person that everyone looked to. Anyone who met her adored her, and her legacy will live on in the lives of her family.

Some of Darlene’s hobbies were quilting, sewing, cooking, and baking. She was known for big family dinners for both sides of her family, that would even sometimes be on the exact same day, just hours apart.  She made appliqued sweatshirts and shipped them all over the United States. She also made wedding cakes for people throughout the northern part of Missouri.

Darlene is survived by her daughter Maureen May (Robert); her grandchildren Tanya, Eric (Mindy), Brandi, and Gus (April); her great grandchildren Cole, Clay, Cash, Tiffany, and Zach; her great-great grandchildren Delanie, Creek, Ada, Hudson, Oaklyn, Azlyn, River, Lauryn, and Stetson; other relatives and many friends.

Darlene was preceded by her husband Ronald Andrews; her son Rick Richard Andrews; and her siblings Dale, Elizabeth, John, and Charlie.

Graveside services will be held on Friday October 24, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Hopkins Cemetery in Hopkins, Missouri under the care of Price Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that expressions of sympathy can be made to the First Christian Church of Hopkins, Missouri.

Food Pantry to Open in Hopkins

Hopkins Christian Church and Hopkins Community Club have formed a partnership with Second Harvest Community Food Bank to open a food pantry at 102 South 5th Street, Hopkins, Missouri.  This pantry is available to anyone that needs assistance with groceries once each month.  Items you might receive include dry goods, produce, protein, and more. Doors will open for the first time on April 25 from 2 pm-5:30 pm.  On this first day of opening, we will survey you asking if another day is needed.  If the current time is suitable to most clients, we will keep it on the third or fourth Thursday of each month depending on when our food is delivered to the pantry.  If more hours are needed for our clients, we will set an additional time and day each month.  For more information please don’t hesitate to reach out to Judy Crane at judycrane@yahoo.com.  

Hopkins Christian Church Service on March 28th, 1954

Recently, Betty (Cross) Lee of Bedford found an old church program from March 28th, 1954 from the Hopkins Christian Church. It was from the service in which she was baptized. 

Albert Hart was the minister of the church and Mrs. Harold Baldwin was the organist. Their motto was, “Enter to Worship, Depart to Serve.”

The hymns were, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” “More Like the Master,” and “Beneath the Cross of Jesus.” Mrs. Arlene Russell performed a special. The invitation hymn was, “I’ll Live for Him.” The sermon topic was, “The Uplifted Christ Lifts Men by his Absolute Certainty.” 

There were two youth fellowships active at the time. There was a Chi Rho Fellowship for all boys and girls from 5th to 8th grades. The Christian and Methodist churches did a  youth fellowship together. There was an organ recital upcoming at the First Christian Church in Maryville that afternoon. It was in connection with the dedication of their new organ. 

The church was preparing to host a First District World Youth Fellowship the next week. The whole program, including a dinner, was $1 and included conference groups, singing, recreation, evening worship, and a speaker, Mrs. Fay Livengood, who had been a missionary to India for many years. 

All the Hopkins churches were getting ready for Holy Week, which was held at the Baptist Church that year. Each church held a Communion Service and, and the Christian Church held a candlelight service and a cantata.
