Grant City CBC Raising Funds Towards New Basketball Court
The Grant City CBC is raising money to be used towards a new multipurpose court that will be constructed where the sand volleyball court is at the Pool Park. It will be open to all ages. A grant is being submitted, and the goal is for the CBC to raise $5,000 for the project. If you have any questions, please contact City Clerk Lana Robinson or Debbie Roach of the CBC.

Department of Economic Development to Visit Grant City March 28th
The Missouri Department of Economic Development Director Mike Downing has set dates to take a team of economic development experts and visit Grant City. The date will be March 28th. They will visit Albany on the previous day, March 27th.
Six communities total were chosen during the annual Missouri Community Betterment Program conference held on October 20th and 21st, where Downing issued a competition to the community representatives in attendance. The first five attendees to email Downing that night on behalf of their city would receive a visit from the team to discuss their community's needs and help find solutions to local economic development issues. Due to a tie, six communities were offered visits.
Since the conference, DED and MCB have put together teams of specialists who have begun initial planning and research for the six selected communities. The teams hope to develop community development strategies to encourage business growth and job creation.
MCB is designed to help Missouri communities enhance their quality of life through community development, planning, and implementation. The program offers technical assistance to its participating communities. The competition provides a unique opportunity for communities to get exclusive hands-on advice from a team that is specially created for that community's needs.

Missouri Department of Economic Development to Visit Grant City March 28th
The Missouri Department of Economic Development will visit Grant City on March 28th. The tentative schedule calls for them to arrive in Grant City at around 9, take a tour, make recommendations, and finish at around 3-4. The Grant City CBC meeting on March 5th will be used to plan the meeting in further detail. At the Missouri CBC State Convention last fall, Missouri Department of Economic Development's Mike Downing issued a challenge to communities; the first five to text him would get a team of experts from the state to visit their community and help with economic development needs. Grant City was the first of five communities to respond.

Missouri Department of Economic Development to Visit Grant City
The Missouri Department of Economic Development and a team of local economic development experts will visit Grant City and five other Missouri communities to assess the drivers of the local economy and help develop a set of recommendations for growth, the Missouri Community Betterment Club announced. Grant City CBC, Debbie Roach Accept Awards
The Grant City CBC received a tie for first place in the statewide CBC competition in their class and CBC President Debbie Roach was named a Missouri Community Betterment Ambassador. They were both recognized in a ceremony Monday afternoon.
Roach received the MCB Ambassador Award for going above and beyond the expected level of participation in a community betterment organization over the years. She is currently the Sheridan Postmaster. She served on the Grant City Council for 7 years and is presently serving as the mayor. She is a board member of the Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation, the DNR's Solid Waste Advisory Board, President of the Grant City CBC, and a board member for the Missouri Community Betterment Organization.
The Grant City CBC tied for first with Novinger this year. Among projects recognized this year were the Bathhouse, the Nature Trail, the Fire Department Building, improvements on the basketball court and the Pool Park by Grant 4 Change, and hosting the regional Missouri Community Betterment Meeting this year. State funding for the CBC has been cut, but the CBC is still able to function on its own and added four communities, including Gentry, in the northwest region this year. Next year, they will celebrate 50 years.
State Representative Mike Thomson congratulated Roach and the Grant City CBC, saying that it was no surprise for him that Grant City was recognized given the Fire Department building, the WCCC heating system, and the pool improvements. Thomson said that he ran into a Worth County resident that morning in Maryville who told him Grant City was looking nicer than it was 40 years ago.
Tom Salisbury of Senator Roy Blunt's office said that Senator Blunt was also a product of a rural community and that it was very easy for towns not to do this sort of thing. "This is something you can take great pride and satisfaction in," he said.

Worth Treatin' Attracts 45 Booths
The second annual Worth Treatin' celebration was held Sunday, sponsored by the Grant City CBC and the Grant City Fire Department. Over 200 people went to the Pool Park and got treats from area organizations and businesses and many then went to the new Firehouse and ate dinner for a fundraiser for the Grant City Fire Department.

Grant City Ties for First; Allendale Second at State CBC Competition
Grant City tied for first in their category and Allendale was second in their category at the annual statewide CBC competition. Among community events and accomplishments that Grant City had were the annual holiday program, hosting a regional CBC meeting, completing the bathhouse project, making progress on the nature trail, and various G4C events held throughout the year. An awards ceremony will be held at the Grant City Hall on November 12th (Veteran's Day) at 3 p.m.

Worth Treatin' October 28th
Worth Treatin' will once again be held this year at the Grant City Pool Park on the trail October 28th. It will be held from 4-6 p.m.; in the event of rain, it will be moved to the Skating Rink. Admission is $1 per person; proceeds will go to the Grant City CBC. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult.
There will also be a soup and chili supper from 4-7 that day at the new Worth County Firehouse on High Street just south of the basketball court. Cost will be a free will donation and proceeds will go to the Worth County Fire Department. There will be kids fire truck rides leaving from the Firehouse between 5 and 6.
If you are a business or organization and would like to have a booth at this year's Worth Treatin' event, call Tiffany Troutwine at (660) 254-4095. This year's event is sponsored by the Worth County Fire Department and the Grant City CBC.

Grand Opening for Pool Bathhouse
The City of Grant City along with “Grant for Change” and Grant City Community Betterment will be hosting a Grand Opening for the new Bath House at the Grant City Municipal Swimming Pool.
The celebration will be held Saturday, June 9th starting at 11 am.
Grant for Change will be hosting games for the children in the park at 11 am followed by a free cookout (while it lasts) sponsored by the City of Grant City and Grant City Community Betterment.
The cookout will be followed by kid’s games in the pool and at 2 pm we will have speakers and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Governor Nixon along with federal and state legislators and representatives from Department of Natural Resources has been invited to attend and share in this day of fun and celebration.
The Bath House was made possible by a grant through the Land and Water Conservation Fund through the Department of Natural Resources.
It is a beautiful addition to our new pool and the park area and we hope everyone will take advantage of the area and enjoy it.

Grant City CBC Honored for Accomplishments
Grant City’s CBC was honored for its statewide accomplishments last Tuesday night as plaques honoring the CBC and the youth group for winning the awards competitions for their divisions were presented to Debbie Roach, President of the Grant City CBC. Roach said that the CBC was not resting on their laurels as they were planning to bring back a circus every two years, planning to make improvements on the nature trail once it is completed next spring, and other plans. The Holiday Bazaar is expanding greatly this year with events planned all day.
Jan Simon of the Missouri CBC presented Grant City with its awards at the ceremony. Grant City was recognized due to their exemplary volunteer work as well as the large network of groups, organizations, and individuals of all ages. They receive funding from a variety of resources; one judge described Grant City’s work as “an outstanding example of community betterment.” Grant City also won the award in 2009.
Also winning 1st place was the youth group of the Grant City CBC. They were recognized for writing a grant that paid for rest stops along the Nature Trail made of recycled materials. They wrote and received a grant, recruited appropriate adult assistance, utilized volunteers from all age groups, and worked hard to complete the project. The youth performed many other activities throughout the year as well including visiting the WCCC residents, doing cultural cooking and dance, and making a large Christmas card.
The Grant City CBC is half-done on the Nature Trail; they plan to finish the project next year with concrete. They were also recognized for the Streetscape Project, their work on the Pool and Bathhouse, and the Holiday Bazaar, now in its third year. Roach credited a lot of different people for the award, crediting former Economic Developer Charity Austin, Janice Borey, and others for helping write the grants and Ayvonne Morin for doing a lot of the background research for the projects.
Matt Berry of Congressman Sam Graves’ office was also present at the ceremony and spoke briefly. He congratulated the city for its hard work and said that it was a good example of pulling together to make a community a better place to live.

Grant City CBC Hosting Citywide Yard Sales
Grant City Community Betterment will be hosting Citywide Yard Sales on Saturday, May 14th. There will be a $5.00 charge to get your name on the list and the fee and information is due May 10th by 4 pm.
You will need to send the fee to GCCB, PO Box 335, Grant City, MO 64456 along with the address where you are holding your sale, the names, the time and a brief description of the items you have for sale.
If the fee and information is not received by May 10th, 4 pm you will not be included on the list.
Lists will be available at Country Corners, Dollar General, Casey’s and City Hall by May 12th, 8 am.

Grant City Community Betterment meets the first Wednesday night of the month at City Hall, 7 pm. If you have ideas for community projects and want to get involved in your community.

Grant City CBC Meeting for November 3rd, 2008
Grant City Community Betterment held their monthly meeting on November 3rd at City Hall.
The Bingo/Soup Supper hosted by Grant City Community Betterment, VFW and VFW Auxiliary was a success with close to $1,000 being raised for the Pool Fund. We appreciate everyone who helped and attended.
Debbie Roach and Cathy James attended the 45th Annual Missouri Community Betterment Conference in Jefferson City on October 19th and 20th and Grant City received second place in their population category. The plaque will be put on display in City Hall and we invite you to stop by and see all the awards we have received over the past 20 years. We are proud of all the awards and accomplishments we have received and they wouldn’t have been possible without all the caring and wonderful people in our community.
We held our Annual Nut Sales which benefits the “Toys for Worth County Kids” Project. Each year the number of underprivileged children increases and with the help of Allendale and Sheridan Community Betterment Clubs , Dollar General and many other businesses and individuals who give toys, monetary donations and support we are able to make Christmas a little better for the children in our county. If you would like to make a monetary donation you may send it to Grant City Community Betterment, PO Box 335, Grant City, MO 64456.
We will be putting decorations up in the Courtyard on Sunday, November 23rd at 1 pm and would appreciate all the help we can get. We did not put them up last year due to the weather; hopefully this year will be better. We have added a couple of new decorations, we hope you enjoy them.
We will also be conducting a Holiday Home of the Week Contest. You do not have to do anything to enter; just be sure and get your decorations up by December 1st. The contest will run for 4 weeks and prizes will be awarded to the winners on December 1st, 8th, 15th and the 22nd. The contest will be sponsored by Grant City Community Betterment, Flowers Unlimited, and the Oldtowne Cafe.
