Eagleville Fall Festival September 13th

The Eagleville Fall Festival will be Saturday, September 13th in Eagleville.

A Kid Power Pedal Pull will be that afternoon at the Square. Registration will be from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm with the competition at 2 pm. It is for boys and girls grades K-5th. There is no entry fee; all equipment will be supplied. The event is sponsored by the Grassroots Organization.

The parade lineup will start at 4:45 pm at the Early Childhood Center parking lot. The parade will start at 5:15 pm. Each participant under 12 will get a sweet treat. The parade route will be from the Parking Lot to Fir Street and then to the Square. The North Harrison Band will perform at the corner of Main and 14th Street immediately following the Parade.

 

 

Route N Closure Will Split Eagleville, North Harrison in Two

The pending closure of Route N for a bridge replacement over I-35 will split Eagleville in half for the next few months. The closure is expected to start August 25th and it will reopen on December 1st.

The closure will split Eagleville in two. Motorists will have to go north on I-35 to Route 69 at the Iowa State Line and back, a 16 mile extra trip, to get from the eastern side of Eagleville to the western side. Motorists seeking to go from the west side of Eagleville to the east side will have to travel on I-35 south to the Ridgeway exit, turn around, and come back north, a 14 mile extra trip.

Motorists headed north from Bethany to Eagleville will not be able to use the exit at Route N; they will have to use Route 69 headed north, which has a lot of curves. Motorists heading south from Iowa to use one of the two marijuana dispensaries will  exit off I-35 as usual, but will then have to use Route 69 up to the state line to get back.

The closure will harm several businesses on the east side of Eagleville. Blak Barrell, Rocket Stop, the archery and gun store, Bahbah’s, and Shelton’s Fireworks are all located on the east side, meaning people from Eagleville will have to make a 30 mile round trip to reach them.

The Sheridan Express will deliver papers every Thursday morning to Blak Barrell and the laundromat in Blythedale during the closure, weather permitting.

The closure will also create a hardship for North Harrison, but Superintendent Mike Tipton said he was proud of the bus drivers getting together on their own and putting together a contingency plan. While the closure will mean kids will have to be on the bus more, he said the drivers did all they could to minimize disruptions to the students. Although Route N will not close until three days after school starts, the buses will run their modified routes right away so that parents will know when to expect their kids to be picked up and dropped off.

In addition to the closure of Route N, I-35 will be closed overnight in both directions on August 25th to 29th from 7 pm to 6 pm each night. Traffic will be directed up and over the ramps at Route N; there will be no access to or from Route N during the closure.

The Route 6 bridge in Daviess County is also being replaced. It is expected to reopen in mid-September.

All work is weather permitting and subject to change. Closure and reopening dates may be changed depending on the weather and how fast the work goes.

Eagleville Church of Christ to Offer Sack Lunches for July

The Eagleville Church of Christ will be offering lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12 noon during the month of July. There are no age or income guidelines. 14 Years After Fire, Shelton Fireworks Continues to Thrive

On December 13th, 2005, employees at Shelton Fireworks were going through a typical day at the business, when the manager spotted a bit of smoke coming out of a bin of novelties at around 3:30 pm. In the blink of an eye, it turned into a catastrophic fire. The school had to hold the busses that day.

The fire and the fireworks show that came with it lasted for weeks. Interstate 35 had to be shut down in both lanes, as there were fireworks shooting off in all directions. The fire could be seen as far as Bethany, and the sulphur could be smelled for weeks.

Owner Greg Shelton was left with the decision of what to do, and he decided to rebuild. The new building went up after just weeks of construction and opened in time for the next Fourth of July Celebration, on June 6th, 2006. The building has a 65 foot tower which can be seen for miles away, and it holds three times as much inventory as the old store held. Shelton Fireworks continues to be one of the biggest employers of Eagleville.

Eagleville to Hold Annual Car, Tractor, and Bike Show

Eagleville will be holding its annual car, tractor, and bike show on July 14th, 2018 on the square in Eagleville. Registration is from 8 am to 11 am. There is no registration fee. Prizes will be awarded at 2 pm. A free T-shirt will be given away to the first 60 entries. Flea market and craft vendors are welcome. No food vendors; there will be food on side.

The band “Shots Fired” will perform from noon until 2 pm.

Entry categories are as follows:
Cars/Pickups – 1900-1960, 1961-1975, 1976-newer. Motorcycles – Stock and Custom. Race Car – 1900-1960 and 1961 to newer. Tractors – Stock and Modified. Rat Rod – 4x4 Pickups, Off Road, and Jeeps.

Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st to 3rd in each class. Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class. There will be a cash prize and trophy for Best in Show for each class.

Two Hikers Passing Through Eagleville, Worth County During 2,918 Mile Walk

Two hikers are passing through Eagleville and Worth County this week. The couple, Amanda and Kolton, hiked from Tybee Island (GA) to Don David Park in Oregon. They have been journeying from Georgia since May 1st. Their goal is to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Make a Wish Foundation. They rested on Sunday before resuming their journey on Monday.

Kolton had this to say on their Facebook page, 2918 Miles, on September 14th while in Princeton about their journey and about Amanda: “Another throwback because holy canolie just look at this! The changes we have made and the challenges we have overcome. It is amazing to see the amount of transformation we've had and in so many ways. Mentally, emotionally, physically, material wise, and just generally as humans beings. I am so proud of how capable and strong my best friend is. To witness the internal and external strength of this woman has been simply profound. I love where we've come from and I am thrilled for where we are going. And the best part of it all is that it's together.”
