Owan Roberson gave North Harrison a big lift in the Tri-County game Friday as the Shamrocks won consolation at the South Harrison Tournament 68-52. The Shamrocks were coming into the game as underdogs; they fell handily to Gilman City, while Tri-County took Gilman to overtime on the Hawks' home court. But Owan Roberson gave the Shamrocks a big lift in the early going with his physical play on Mustang skyscraper Landen Dodds, attacking the rim on offense like a guard, finding the open person, keeping the ball moving, and making himself part of the offense. After a pair of threes from Gage Fortner and Jensen Davis, he slashed and scored to make it 8-0 with 6:51 left. Tucker Curtis cut it to 8-3, but Jensen Davis hit a 3-pointer, and then Owan Roberson hit Dustin Hamilton to make it 13-3. By the time Roberson came out with two fouls, the Shamrocks had a lead they would not relinquish, although the Mustangs made several charges throughout the game.
Gage Fortner's 3-pointer made it 17-5 before Gabe Manning started to get untracked, Keaton Norman hit a 3-pointer, and Dodds hit two free throws to cut it to 17-12. But then Fortner, who was red hot all night long, beat the buzzer to make it 20-12 after one.
The taller Mustang squad was creating problems for the Shamrocks with their size advantage, but the Shamrock press was working as they won the turnover battle 8-1 in the first quarter and 20-4 for the game.
Wyatt Maize was finding the open man at will for the Shamrocks; he hit the 12 assist mark for the second time in his career. Both times were in the South Harrison building. He also got it last year against South Harrison on the same night that Jerry Gilpatrick had 32 points. But he has yet to beat Brandon Craig, who had 14 assists against Pattonsburg during his playing days paired with Shane Skinner. Maize fed both Jensen Davis and Andrew Craig to start the second to make it 25-12. Manning, who shot Tri-County back into the game against Gilman City the week before, tried to do so again, attacking the rim every chance he could. Owan Roberson came back in the middle of the second quarter to put the Shamrocks ahead 33-19 with a guarded shot from the high post and a slash to the rim before picking up his third foul. Manning hit a free throw and Curtis brought Tri-County to within 33-22, only for Gage Fortner to go off with back to back jacks to put the Shamrocks in front 39-22 at the half.
Tri-County switched to a man to man to try to stop the three point barrage, but Gage Fortner continued to have the hot hand for North Harrison, slashing and scoring and then Jensen Davis got a steal, fed Wyatt Maize, who fed Fortner, who drew Carter Fewins' fourth foul and converted a three point play to make it 44-22. Maize got loose in transition to make it 46-22.
At that point, North Harrison started subbing freely and getting some of their younger players in. Owan Roberson scored six points late in the third quarter, splitting two defenders on one play to make it 58-33. Keaton Norman got going with a late 3-point barrage for Tri-County to cut it back to 58-38 and Jerod Carter's putback to start the fourth made the Tri-County deficit 58-40, and the lead hovered between 16 and 24 the rest of the way. Kellan Craig scored his first points as a Shamrock, getting one in the post off a pass from Landon Johnson and finishing over Dodds.
