Pattonsburg's Panthers are still adjusting to life without Katelyn Jones, but they are getting closer to finding an identity following their 34-13 win over St. Joseph Christian Tuesday, January 7th. The Panthers played box and one with Annabelle Gardner faceguarding their best player, Maddie Glise and shutting her out for the night. Kinsley Johnson patrolled the paint and shut out their best post player, Annie Herschberger and held her scoreless; Johnson had 9 blocks, 12 boards, and 9 points, nearly getting a triple double. Addie Iddings played her best game yet as a Panther getting a career high of 13 points offensively and everybody else chipped in.
Iddings opened the scoring for the Panthers by getting a steal and feeding Gardner for the finish. Cheyenne Miller then fed Iddings for three and then added a steal to make it 7-0. Harper Sowers cut it to 7-2 for the Lions after Jayden Goble was shaken up and came out briefly. But Goble's replacement, Carlie Pittsenbarger, launched a 3-pointer from the top of the key and Iddings added her second triple of the quarter to make it 13-2 after one.
Addie Iddings hit her third triple of the quarter to make it 17-4, but then Joy Wallick beat the halftime buzzer to make it 17-7. The Lions were able to stay in the game thanks to a massive rebounding advantage in the first half.
But Pattonsburg rebounded much better in the second half and was able to put it away. Jayden Goble drove and scored to start the scoring and then Cheyenne Miller hit Iddings at the top of the key to make it 22-7. At that point, Glise tweaked her ankle and didn't return for the Lions.
Sowers tried to carry the Panthers, connecting on a couple of free throws, but then Kinsley Johnson converted a traditional 3-point play to make it 25-9. Sowers drove and somehow got one over Johnson to make it 25-11, but then Johnson drove and drew another foul, scoring two free throws, and then Pittsenbarger hit Miller for three at the buzzer for the dagger to make it 30-11.
Kinsley Johnson grabbed a long rebound and knocked down a 3-pointer and Gardner added a free throw as the Panthers led by as much as 34-11 in the fourth.
