Junior High Tiger Teams Win GRC West Title

Worth County’s junior high track teams swept the GRC West Meet Thursday at St. Joseph Christian. The girls edged out Albany, while the boys won handily over North Andrew and Stanberry as both teams closed out their seasons with a bang.

For the girls, Worth County had 105.5 points, Albany 91, North Andrew 75.5, Braymer 51, St. Joseph Christian 49, Stanberry 44, King City 36, and Pattonsburg 13.

For the boys, Worth County had 115, North Andrew 83, Stanberry 83, Albany 70, King City 60, Braymer 46, and St. Joseph Christian 4.

For the girls, Hailey Adwell was second in the 100 with a time of 13.73. Brooklyn Richardson was fourth in the 200 with a time of 30.46. Autumn Cousatte was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:11.87. Hailey Adwell had won most of her meets in the 800 and she turned in her most dominant performance Thursday, as she got a personal best and won by almost 19 seconds with a time of 2:34.89. The Tigers placed two in the 100 Hurdles as Brooklyn Richardson was second with a time of 18.51, while Becca Smith was fourth with a time of 19.07.

The 4x100 relay team of Becca Smith, Ali Brown, Autumn Cousatte, and Brooklyn Richardson was fifth with a time of 59.45. The 4x200 team of Autumn Cousatte, Becca Smith, Ali Brown, and Hailey Adwell ran away with the event by almost 5 seconds, getting a time of 2:02.28.

The Tigers placed three in the Pole Vault. Claire McElvain won with a vault of 7 feet. Liz Brown was fourth with a height of 5’6”, while Brooklyn Richardson tied for fifth with a height of 5’6”. Becca Smith was sixth in the Long Jump with a jump of 12’9½”. The Tigers placed two in the Triple Jump as Ali Brown was second with a jump of 28’10”. ZeeAnna Gladstone was fourth with a jump of 27 feet.

The Tigers placed two in the Shot Put as Kara Staton was third with a throw of 32’9½”, while Ali Brown was right behind her with a fourth place throw of 32’1¼”. The Tigers were 1-3 in the Discus as Kara Staton won with a throw of 83 feet, while Taylor Sanders was third with a throw of 77’11”. Autumn Cousatte was sixth with a throw of 66’4”.

On the boys side, Colt Cameron was fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.89. Cameron was also fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.43. The Tigers placed two in the 400, as Levi Cassavaugh was second with a time of 1:00.02 and Jon Galanakis was fourth with a time of 1:01.55. Landon Moser was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:52.31, placing for the first time all year. Cash Jacobs placed for the first time all year in the 1600, getting fifth with a time of 6:26.79. Wyatt Craven was third in the 100 with a time of 18.39.

The Tigers were fourth in the 4x100 as the team of Damian Roush, Landon Moser, Cash Jacobs, and Elias Alarcon was fourth with a time of 58.05. The 4x200 team of Tyler New, Braxton Hightshoe, Wyatt Craven, and Levi Cassavaugh was fifth with a time of 1:56.39. The 4x400 team saved its best effort for the last as they ran away with a five second win. The team of Tyler New, Braxton Hightshoe, Wyatt Craven, and Levi Cassavaugh got a time of 4:25.94.

Jon Galanakis was second in the High Jump with a height of 5’2”. Braxton Hightshoe was fifth with a height of 5 feet. Levi Cassavaugh continued his late surge in the Pole Vault as he won with a height of 8 feet, just off his personal best. Tyler New was third with a height of 7 feet. Jon Galanakis was fourth in the Long Jump with a jump of 15’7”. The Tigers were 1-2 in the Triple Jump as Wyatt Craven was first with a jump of 33’4½”. Jon Galanakis was second with a jump of 32’3¾”.

Jase Latham, who had steadily improved in the Shot Put all year, got to 40 feet by the end as he won. Colt Cameron was right behind him, tied for second with a throw of 39’6½”. Colt Cameron was second in the Discus with a throw of 116’4”. Elias Alarcon was sixth with a throw of 99 feet.
