Worth County's junior high boys had a successful season this year, going 8-3 for the year behind their team speed and balanced scoring as they figure to be able to produce some more horses for Coach Chris Healy's varsity squad next year.
Worth County 26, St. Gregory's 11
Worth County used nine different players in a 26-11 opening day win over the Falcons. The Tigers held St. Gregory's to one field goal in the first half and took a 12-3 lead and cruised to the win from there. Six different players landed in the scoring column, led by J.T. Welch with eight points. Four other players notched four for the Tigers.
Worth County 57, North Nodaway 12
North Nodaway did not have an answer for Brevyn Ross as the speedster for Worth County put up 16 points in the first quarter for the Tigers as they jumped out to a 24-4 lead. Ross led scoring honors for the Tigers with 19 points for the game. Cole Parman went on a tear in the third quarter, getting 12 points in the period as Worth County put 21 more points on the board. Parman had 12 for the night, followed by J.T. Welch with 8. Nine different Tigers scored in the game.
Stanberry 28, Worth County 25
Worth County could only get three people in the scoring column as they dropped their first game of the year to Stanberry. Cole Parman (16 points) was the one player who was hitting consistently for the Tigers, adding a 3-pointer. Worth County fell behind 5-2, but fought back to lead 11-10 at the half and 19-18 after three quarters. But they could not hold the lead and Stanberry came out on top in the back and forth affair.
Worth County 46, King City 25
Worth County got back to its winning ways as they used a 17-point third quarter to run away from King City. King City kept it close, trailing only 18-14 at the half. But the Tigers pulled away in the second half despite struggling at the line, going 4 for 22. Cole Parman led for the second night in a row, getting 17 points to net 33 in the last two games. Josh Warner added a season high 14; Brevyn Ross added 9.
Worth County 35, Northeast Nodaway 25
The challenge for the Tigers in this game was to hold leading scorer for NEN, Garet Jackson, in check. They did so and won 35-25 as they held Jackson to 8. The Tigers jumped out to a 15-3 lead and did not let them get back in the game. Cole Parman continued to be the go-to player for the Tigers, getting 13 points while Brevyn Ross and Josh Warner added 9 each.
Worth County 37, Jefferson 35
Worth County fell behind 7-3 against the Eagles as they were held without a field goal in the first quarter. But they fought back to trail by one, 15-14, at the half. The game was close all the way, but the Tigers pulled off the win. Cole Parman put together a season high, getting 18 for the Tigers. Brevyn Ross and Josh Warner both struggled with foul trouble but still contributed as Ross had 9 points and Warner 8.
Worth County 39, South Nodaway 22
Once again, Worth County got behind early; this time, they fought back to take the lead at halftime and then went on to win. Worth County trailed 7-3 after one quarter, but a Longhorn 3-pointer at the buzzer served as a wakeup call as they outscored South Nodaway 14-2 in the second. They scored 16 more in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Worth County's three-headed scoring punch of Cole Parman, Brevyn Ross, and Josh Warner struck again. Parman had one below his season high as he got 17. Warner added 11 despite going up against taller opposition and Ross added six. Six different Tigers scored in the win.
Worth County 36, Jefferson 25
Worth County did not let Jefferson make a game out of it the second time around as they jumped out to a 16-8 lead after one quarter in the first round of the Northeast Nodaway Tournament. Cole Parman had six points, Brevyn Ross added four more, and J.T. Welch added a 3-pointer. Parman battled foul trouble and got "only" 10 points, but he got help this time as Brevyn Ross got 12 to lead the team. Austin Carlson showed some potential in the third quarter as he got all six of his points in the period. Warner added 5.
Worth County 37, South Nodaway 12
Worth County did not let the Longhorns hang around the second time as they put them away the second time around after a slow start at the Northeast Nodaway Tournament. Worth County led 16-6 at the half and then outscored South Nodaway 14-6 to make it 30-12 after three quarters as Brevyn Ross had 9 points in the period. Eight different Tigers scored, led by Ross with 15 points. Cole Parman added 5; Worth County managed to find a way to win without Cole leading the scoring and despite shooting 8 for 26 at the line. Chris Alarcon and Austin Carlson added 4 each.
Maryville 52, Worth County 10
Maryville won the exhibition and Worth County won the actual tournament -- the Spoofhounds did not belong in the tournament as they simply outclassed everyone else. Worth County fell behind 12-3 after one and 28-7 after two in the loss.
Albany 54, Worth County 25
It was a disappointing ending to a good season. Worth County led 20-19 over the Warriors at the half, only to be outscored 17-3 in the third and 18-2 in the fourth. Worth County could only get two players going as Cole Parman got 12 points and Brevyn Ross added 7.
