Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Joy (Jody) Barnes-Novak, of Albany, as the new public administrator for Gentry County. The position became vacant after the death of Judith Pickering.
Barnes-Novak, a Democrat, is the regional operations manager for Edison Learning. She served as elementary principal for the Albany R-III School District from 1995 to 2003, and was a teacher, site principal and special education teacher in the South Harrison School District from 1981 to 1995. Barnes-Novak was president and secretary of the GCARC. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwest Missouri State University.
“Jody Barnes-Novak has ably served the people of this area for many years as an educator, and has been very active in helping those with mental disabilities,” Gov. Nixon said. “I am confident her years of experience will enable her to perform the duties of Gentry County public administrator well.”
