The Natural Resources Conservation Service and University of Missouri Extension will present two seminars on managing livestock grazing and forages in September, 2008. The schools will be offered at Stewartsville on September 19th and 20th and the University of Missouri Hundley-Whaley Farm in Albany on September 24th and 25th.
The Stewartsville school is scheduled for a Friday evening and all day Saturday. This session offers the opportunity for producers who have other obligations during the week to exchange ideas with other people interested in managed grazing.
These sessions offer the chance to exchange information on topics such as the art and science of grazing management, evaluation of farm resources, economics of grazing management, livestock nutrition, grazing system layout and design, pasture growth, forages, soil fertility, fence and water systems, winter feeding of stockpiled forages, and no winter feeding.
The registration fee of $100 per person covers the costs of the seminars including mileage reimbursement, meals, refreshments, on-farm tour equipment, fence and water system demonstration, materials, and the following resources: Missouri Grazing Manual, Summer Grazing in Missouri, Forages and Weeds of Pastures, Water Systems for Grazing Livestock, and grazing stick. You also get these free publications: Electric Fencing for Serious Grazers, and Pasture Management Guide for Northern Missouri.
