This letter is about the vandalism that seems to be rampant in our community and getting worse. Last weekend I watched and listened to reports of the World Youth Day held in Sydney, Australia this summer. There were hundreds of thousands of youth from all over the world who planned for the opportunity to build on their faith. This happened to be a Catholic event and I being a Catholic was very impressed by the well-mannered youth, some of whom sacrificed greatly to be able to attend. Like our Worth County kids who worked so hard at fund-raisers to go to Carnegie Hall, these groups of kids worked and saved to do something that would lift them up—not tear them down the way vandals must suffer consequences if they are caught. A group of teens from China literally put their faith on the line because China forbid their people to attend this world-wide event. That’s how much our faith ought to mean to us….. that we would risk something, maybe even death, to partake in a good thing. If our Worth County vandals really knew the Lord God, who gave them their life at birth, they would not want to steal or damage property in any way. They would want to do good things for the community because they would know and see what the community has done for them. We could use those misguided energies to paint and fix up the pool etc. God Bless the volunteers who have been cleaning up the messes left by some of their peers. We are only here for a little while—eternity is forever, therefore let us be doing good things that our community can be proud of while we are in this world, then maybe we will be worthy of that special place in the next one.
