North Harrison Reports One Positive Case, One Presumed Positive

 On Thursday, the North Harrison School District reported that a staff member tested positive and another staff member is a presumed positive case for the Coronavirus. Both individuals are self-isolating at home. The school and the Harrison County Health Department are working to identify close contacts of these individuals. 

The Bethany Republican Clipper reported that Cainsville had closed school for two weeks following a staff member testing positive. Ridgeway continued school, but isolated an entire class and is now requiring masks at the school. Ridgeway subsequently went to virtual in-person classes for the week of September 8th through 11th. North Harrison continued school, but the softball game that was to have been played Thursday was canceled. The team scrimmaged against themselves, with seniors being recognized after the game.

46 New Coronavirus Cases in Nodaway County August 31st

After a brief dropoff in positive cases in Nodaway County over the weekend, Coronavirus cases skyrocketed again Monday, August 31st. The Nodaway County Health Department reported 46 positive cases and the sixth death.

The individuals include seven females and 7 males between 10 and 19, 12 females and 14 males between 20 and 29, 1 female between 30 and 39, one female between 40 and 49, two females between 50 and 59, one male between 60 and 69, and one male between 70 and 79. Out of the 46 positive cases, 40 were of people between the ages of 20 and 29. 

That brought the total to 553 confirmed cases, 273 active cases, 274 released from isolation, 16 total hospitalizations, 6 current hospitalizations, and 6 deaths. 

There were 14 more positive tests in Nodaway County September 1st. Positive cases included one male between 0 and 9, three females and three males between 10 and 19, 1 female and 3 males between 20 and 29, 1 male between 30 and 39, and two males between 60 and 69.

 On August 25th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested John Stegmayer (83) of Martinsville in Harrison County on charges of DWI, No Valid License, and Failure to Yield. The charges were in conjunction with the wreck that occurred in Eagleville that day.

On August 25th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Jesse Chitwood (28) of King City alleging Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony), two counts Armed Criminal Action (Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony), and Domestic Assault. Bond was set at $5,000, cash or corporate surety.

On August 25th, Nodaway County Prosecutor David Baird filed charges against Barbara Vinzant (64) of Maryville alleging DWI.

On August 26th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Katelyn Rossell (17) of Bethany alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On August 26th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Dalton Clemmons (23) of Bethany alleging DWI and Excessive Vision Reducing Material on Windows.

On August 27th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Kenneth Grashorn (55) of Ridgeway alleging  DWI (Two Counts), Leaving the Scene, Property Damage, Careless & Imprudent Driving, and Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $25,000, cash only.

On August 27th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Sean Court (37) of Ridgeway in Harrison County on a charge of Domestic Assault. He was subsequently charged by Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer.

On August 27th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Christopher Shiflett (31) of Worth on a Clay County Warrant (Non-Support) as well as a new charge of No Valid License.

On August 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jeffrey Meyer (37) of Maryville in Nodaway County on a Felony Worth County Warrant (Parental Kidnapping), a Felony Buchanan County Warrant (Endangering the Welfare of a Child), and Failure to Register. He is being held at the Nodaway County Jail on no bond.

On August 29th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department received a report of reckless driving on P46. Subsequently, they arrested Eric Smith (21) of Kirksville on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

On August 29th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested William Powell (62) of Diagonal on three counts of Failure to Report for a Jail Sentence.

On August 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Russell Hamilton (30) of Bethany alleging Burglary (Felony), Fraudulent Use of Credit Device (Felony), and two counts Stealing (Felony). Northwest Mo Info reports that the charges arose after officers were notified of a burglary in which cash, checks, and a debit card were stolen from a residence while the owner was away. Hamilton was accused of stealing $2,500 in cash, a tax return check for over $2,000, and making purchases with the victim’s debit card totaling over $2,000. Subsequently, a search warrant was issued and a search conducted, in which officers recovered property which they say connected the defendant to the theft.

On August 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Clifford Spriggs (38) of Lancaster (TX) in Harrison County on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felony), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding, and No Valid License. The Patrol also arrested Anthony Chimney (34) of Tyler (TX) on charges of Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On August 31st, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Jason Yetman (45) of Blythedale alleging Assault (Felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony), and Resisting Arrest. Bond was set at $75,000, cash only.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Man in Matter Involving Missing Woman Has Bond Revoked

A man with a court case that involves Melissa Chapman, the woman from Grant City who went missing, had his bond revoked Friday. 

On June 3rd, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Jeremiah Searles (39) of Bethany alleging Kidnapping (Felony), Domestic Assault (Felony), and Child Abuse (Felony). On June 19th, Judge Thomas Alley granted bond in the amount of $10,000, with defendant given leave to post $1,000 cash, which he posted on June 26th. One of the conditions was that the defendant have no contact with Melissa Chapman. 

On August 28th, after Chapman had gone missing, Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer made a motion to revoke Searles’ bond, which was granted by the court. Judge Thomas Alley revoked the bond and set a new bond at $100,000, cash only. On August 31st, Searles was arrested by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no formal charges had been filed in conjunction with Chapman’s disappearance. Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented in a court of law. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Melissa Chapman remains missing. People have been searching for her around the county without success. If anybody has information regarding the disappearance of Chapman, please contact the Worth County Sheriff’s Department at (660) 564-2222.

Worth County Gets Two New Coronavirus Cases

 Worth County got their 10th and 11th Coronavirus cases Monday and Tuesday, the Tri-County Health Department reported. There are now two active cases; the other nine have recovered. 

There are now 93 total cases in Gentry County. Of these, four are active and 80 have recovered.

There are now 2,747 cases in Region H. Out of these, there have been 30 deaths. Over half of the positive cases, 1,403, have been in Buchanan County. The second highest total is 507 positive cases in Nodaway County.

County Awards CARES Act Funding to Eight Businesses, Orgs

 The Worth County Commission Monday awarded a combined total of $50,900 in CARES Act funding to eight businesses and organizations. Funding recipients for the first round include Main Street Cuts, Northwest Enterprise Facilitation, Rowen Barber Shop, Sheridan CBC, Tri-County Health Department, Worth County Circuit Court, Worth County School, and the Worth County Senior Center. Many other Worth County businesses took advantage of the Paycheck Protection Plan as well. There will be a second round of CARES funding; the deadline for that will be September 25th at 5 pm. 

Circuit Clerk Jana Findley reported on the status of the courts. By order of 4th Circuit Judge Roger Prokes, the Courtroom is locked, travel is discouraged, and employees are encouraged to work from home if possible. Court is still being held. 

Emergency Management Director Abby Hawk reported that there were 8,605 new cases for Missouri, for a total of 83,655 total cases. This was higher than last week; the rise is being fueled by positive cases among 20-24 year olds and 10-19 year olds. This is similar to Nodaway County’s trend. There were 82 deaths for last week, to bring the total to 1,508 statewide. The most affected age group is people 80 and older. There were two new cases for Worth County. 

Personal Protective Equipment has been requested from SEMA; however, that order has not yet been filled. There are plenty of light masks available; however, there are no N95 masks available. Latex gloves are also backordered. The WCCC has adequate masks. 

The county will conduct a routine siren test Wednesday.

Zane Reed Throws for 475 Yards as Panthers Reload

 Zane Reed, who didn’t even play last year for Pattonsburg, took the helm and threw for 475 yards Friday as Pattonsburg beat LeBlond 80-40. LeBlond jumped on the Panthers early, but then Pattonsburg recovered to score 40 points by the end of the first quarter and build up a 60-16 lead by halftime. 

Reed completed 23 passes in 39 attempts for 475 yards and 8 touchdowns and only one pick. He ran for another 72 yards. Brody Langfitt had 5 carries for 58 yards, Gage Iddings 4 carries for 26 yards, and Cameron Jones, back from a knee injury, had 1 carry for 23 yards.

Brett Emig fueled the Panthers’ passing game, getting 10 catches for 237 yards. Cameron Jones had 7 catches for 158 yards, Kaden Locker one catch for 34 yards, Gage Iddings 1 catch for 33 yards, Brody Langfitt 3 catches for 17 yards, and Sam Coin 1 catch for 7 yards. 

Brett Emig led the tackle chart with eight tackles. Cameron Jones and Brody Langfitt had 6, Gage Iddings and Sam Coin had 4, Tyson Gibson, Kaden DeJong, Collin Briggs, and Skyler Todd all had 3, Brandon Hamilton had 2, and Kaden Locker and James Norton had 1 each. 

LeBlond turnovers fueled the Panthers as Pattonsburg forced five. Gage Iddings, Brody Langfitt, and Sam Coin all had 1 pick each. Kaden Locker and Cameron Jones all had 1 fumble recovery.
