Blood Drive at Ravenwood UMC June 3rd

A blood drive will be held at the Ravenwood United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 3rd from 2 pm to 6 pm. The goal is to collect 36 units of blood like they did in April. The blood center has increased their appointment slots to 44.

The Northeast Nodaway School is partnering with the Ravenwood United Methodist Church to help junior and senior students have a better chance of earning a scholarship by donating blood and by recruiting donors for the drives at both the school and church.

This month, there were two Northeast Nodaway seniors who received the “Gallon Grad” scholarship. They were Jalyn Burns and Mylee Wilmes. They are the first two Gallon Grads at Northeast Nodaway since 2015.

The American Hospital Association estimated that over 4.5 million lives in the US are saved by blood transfusions each year. A single blood donation can be separated into three components, red cells, plasma, and platelets, which means that three lives are saved from every blood donation. The American Hospital Association says that tens of thousands of units are used daily.

 

4,000 People See Fallen WW1 Soldier Buried at Ravenwood in 1921

One of the biggest gatherings ever in Ravenwood saw 4,000 people turn out in September 1921 to see the remains of David Hunterson, son of Dr. & Mrs. D.J. Hunterson, returned to Ravenwood to be buried. Hunterson was killed in action on September 21st, 1918. Over 4,000 attended the service, which was held at the Ravenwood United Methodist Church. Hundreds accompanied the carriage to Oak Lawn Cemetery, where he was buried. The carriage was drawn by six black horses.

Ravenwood UMC Fall Feast November 2nd

The Ravenwood United Methodist Church will be having its annual Fall Feast on Friday, November 2nd. Cheesy potatoes, pork roast, salads, desserts, and drinks will be served. Cost will be a free will offering.

100+ Enjoy Ravenwood United Methodist Church Fish Fry

Over 100 people enjoyed the Ravenwood United Methodist Church Fish Fry Friday evening. There were two different kinds of fish served as well as various sides and drinks served. This was one of several different fish fries held around the area; others were held in Parnell and Grant City as well. There was a brief all-charge meeting in Grant City following the Grant City Fish Fry.
