Northeast Nodaway's girls softball team won a wild game in Winston Thursday evening as they built up a 13-0 lead after the top of the fifth. They then had to hold off a frantic Redbird rally before holding on to prevail 15-12. Jill Spire had two doubles, three triples, and a home run along with 7 RBI's in the victory, going 4 for 4 at the plate. Winston scored six in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to make it 13-8 before Northeast got two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Winston then came on in the seventh to score four in the inning before Northeast held on to win.
Alicia Smith was 3 for 4 for Northeast, Allie Runde 2 for 4, and Talina Nelson and Taylor Coffelt both 2 for 5. Nelson and Coffelt both had doubles. Runde, Nelson, and Vanessa Riley each had triples in addition to Spire. In addition to Spire, Taylor Coffelt got her first varsity home run for Danny Smith's squad. In addition to Spire, Vanessa Riley drove in three runs as she had a career night for Northeast. Taylor Coffelt, Alicia Smith, Dallis Coffelt, and Talina Nelson each drove in one run.
