Council of Governments Launches Sidewalk Survey

The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments is launching Stroll-n-Score, a community walk audit that invites residents to evaluate sidewalks, crossings, trails, lighting, accessibility and overall pedestrian safety. The self-guided initiative gives residents an opportunity to walk a route of their choice, record observations, upload photos if desired and describe how walking feels in their community today. The feedback will help identify strengths worth celebrating and opportunities for future discussion.

Local Experience Matters

Every sidewalk, trail, crosswalk and street tells part of a community’s story. Residents who use these routes often know where walking feels comfortable, where crossings are difficult and where barriers affect access. Stroll-n-Score is not a technical engineering survey. It is a practical way for community members to contribute firsthand knowledge that maps, reports and checklists cannot capture on their own.

What Participants Will Assess -

•Sidewalk condition and accessibility

•Street crossings and traffic safety

•Lighting, visibility and comfort

•Routes that connect residents to important destinations

•Places that feel welcoming, or are avoided due to safety concerns

How to Participate

Residents can participate by opening the Stroll-n-Score survey at https://form.jotform.com/262434173035148, choosing a route and completing the audit during or after their walk. Participants are encouraged to share the survey with friends, family and co-workers. Longtime residents are especially encouraged to participate. Their memories of former gathering places, once-important routes and changes in sidewalks, trails and community assets can help explain how local walking conditions have evolved. The stories collected through Stroll-n-Score will help keep community voices at the center of conversations about safer, more accessible places to walk.

The survey can be accessed by scanning the QR code below. Still have questions? See more details on our Facebook page or you can reach out to Christy, at (660) 582-5121, ext. 6 or via email at christy@nwmorcog.org.
