Brock Healy Hits Four Threes in Last Four Minutes to Sink Shamrocks

Brock Healy had a crazy scoring outburst to wipe out a Tiger deficit, and the Tigers came back to win 42-41 over North Harrison, a team which had beaten them earlier in the year. After taking third place at the Northeast Nodaway Tournament, Worth County beat Albany. They then played South Harrison and lost, but played a good game. They beat Albany again in the tournament and then lost to Princeton, the eventual tournament champions. The Blue Tigers also beat North Harrison, so their result against Albany would not have affected the outcome. Since both Worth County and North Harrison were 1-1 and Albany was 0-2, Wednesday’s game was for the second place trophy. The winner would be the team who adjusted best to playing back to back to back nights. The Thursday game was moved to Tuesday, since Worth County’s football team was playing in the State Championship game that night.

At first, it looked like Worth County would take over as after Kellan Craig’s free throw to start the game, Brock Healy hit a pullup and added two free throws and Jordan Dannar scored off a drive after grabbing an offensive board to make it 6-1 at the 4:22 mark of the first quarter. Then, it looked like North Harrison would take control when Ryker Fortner hit a 3-pointer after getting a pass from Jensen Davis, Gage Fortner scored from inside, Kellan Craig scored four straight, and Ryker Fortner hit his second straight triple of the quarter to make it 13-6 at the 54 second mark.

But Jordan Dannar’s drive set up Maverick Cox to end the quarter, and then Brock Healy scored the first five points of the second quarter to knot it at 13.

Gage Fortner’s steal set up Jensen Davis, who finished over Maverick Cox as North Harrison rebuilt its lead. Fortner hit a triple, and then Jensen Davis scored off a Gage Fortner steal to make it 20-13. But Brock Healy kept the Tigers in the game in the second quarter, getting a free throw, taking a charge on defense, and scoring inside off a Dannar inbounds pass to cut it to 20-16 before Dalton Guy set up Jensen Davis’ drive to put the Shamrocks up 22-16 at the half.

The play of Kellan Craig sparked the Shamrocks early as he grabbed an offensive board on one end, hit his head on the floor, allowing the Tigers to push it, then got up and sprinted down the floor, where he grabbed the defensive board on the other end. Ryker Fortner’s free throw and Dalton Guy’s transition basket put the Shamrocks in front 25-16 before Hudson Cameron’s putback and Cole Hardy’s triple cut the Tiger deficit to 25-21. Gage Fortner’s free throw and Jensen Davis’ triple rebuilt it to 29-21, only for Jordan Dannar to knock one down from the high post after Maverick Cox kept a possession alive with an offensive board. Maverick Cox got a putback, and then Cole Hardy got a three point play off a fast break off a Jordan Dannar pass to make it 29-28 before Jensen Davis’ drive set up Gage Fortner to put the Shamrocks back in front 31-28 after three.

North Harrison looked to be back in control at the start of the fourth. Kellan Craig hit two free throws after drawing Maverick Cox’s fourth foul. Jensen Davis hit a 3-pointer and Gage Fortner scored off a Jensen Davis steal to make it 38-28 with 4:44 left. But Maverick Cox got an offensive board and put it back before Jensen Davis hit a free throw to make it 39-30 with 3:19 left.

But then nobody picked up Brock Healy bringing it up the floor, and he pulled up and hit a 3-pointer to cut it to 39-33 and keep Worth County’s chances alive. He followed it up with an NBA 3-pointer, and all of a sudden, it was 39-36 again.

North Harrison ran it down to 1:31 before Worth County fouled Gage Fortner, and he hit one out of two to make it 40-36. Cole Hardy missed a 3-pointer, but Maverick Cox got an offensive board to keep the possession alive. Cole’s next three went in and out, but the ball went out off the green shirts to keep the ball on Worth County’s end. Cole Hardy missed his third 3-pointer, but in an example of why you need to keep shooting even if you’re missing, the ball went out off a green shirt yet again, and this time, Worth County managed to convert. This time, Brock Healy missed a 3-pointer, but Jordan Dannar grabbed the offensive board, and on a fifth chance try, Brock hit a 3-pointer to make it 40-39 with 28 seconds left and the Tiger crowd started going nuts.

Ryker Fortner missed two free throws on the other end, but Gage Fortner stripped Brock Healy and Jensen Davis made one out of two with 13 seconds left to make it 41-39. But Brock Healy brought it up, took it to the right wing with 5.7 seconds, and hit an NBA 3-pointer put the Tigers up 42-41.

There was still plenty of basketball to be played, but Ryker Fortner’s off balance three was off and Maverick Cox knocked the ball away to seal the Tiger victory.
