UN Special Forces Scam

A scam over the e-mail is asking people to provide the scammer with a $50 million offshore account for the UN Special Forces in Iraq. However, there are no UN Special Forces in Iraq; the US currently has troops in Iraq, but is planning to pull them out. Typically, when the victim sets up the offshore account, the scammer will write a phony check and when the victim takes money out of the bank, they will be liable for any checks that they write.

To report a scam, forward the e-mail in question to spam@uce.gov. They will place it in a database and use it to track down and prosecute the scammers. If the scam in question purports to be from a specific company, you can forward it to the company in question; the website www.fightidentitytheft.com has a list of contacts of companies frequently targeted.
