Department of Public Safety Director John M. Britt today referred the alleged theft of more than $90,000 of state funds from the Missouri Veterans Commission to Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster’s Office to pursue legal remedies for the recovery of those funds.
“Any theft of state funds intended for Missouri’s veterans is unconscionable and should not be tolerated,” said Director Britt. “It is essential that this money is recovered and that Missouri taxpayers are protected.”
Yesterday, April 12, Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee released the findings of an audit her office conducted of the Veterans Commission. The audit indicated a former accountant at the Veterans Commission stole $90,191 by reimbursing herself with state funds for charges to a personal credit card.
