Tyler Steele told the Sheridan Express Thursday afternoon that he was running for the Worth County School Board because he was interested in improving the community. He is the son of Todd and Angie Steele and is married to Lindsay (Jackson) Steele. He already serves on the Skating Rink board and the WCPO board as well. He said that he and Lindsay wanted to improve the community to the point where they would attract more people and reverse decades of decline.
Steele said that the main issue for the school was long-term planning. While the school had a healthy surplus, Steele, who served on a committee that looked at the facilities, said that there were a lot of projects that needed to be worked on in coming years such as the stairs going down from the school on the east side as well as the fire escape leading out of the band room to the football field. Steele said that he wanted to build on what previous boards have already done in that area.
He noted that the improvements recommended by the building committee were just the tip of the iceberg. For instance, he said that the ag roof, the track, and the sinks were other issues that were identified. Steele said that one strength was personnel. "Loren and Joe have done a good job of maintaining stuff," he said.
Another issue for Steele was teachers. Several teachers will be up for renewal and there will be positions open. If elected, Steele said that he wanted to hire people who were either experienced or who were ready to commit to Worth County and who were willing to stick around. Steele said that he wanted to see the school keep moving forward with putting in new technology and continue to meet and improve on the state's standards for education.
