Grant City to Install New Carpet at City Hall

The City of Grant City will install a new carpet at City Hall on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The old one has become a tripping hazard. This means that the License Office will be closed on the day before Thanksgiving as well as the day after. The City Hall office will also be closed that day; however, the drive-in will be open that day and people can still call City Hall.

The Nature Trail received a clean bill of health in a semi-final inspection as the project closes out. The city had signed an agreement with the school several years ago that had allowed them to build the trail behind the ball diamond. The school owns the ball diamond after it had been donated by the Grant City Legion.

Jeff Quick came to discuss a fence separating his pasture from the city lagoon, which is in need of repair. He will meet with Public Works Director Carl Staton to discuss repairs.

Mayor Debbie Roach said that between 1,000 and 2,500 bikers will be on the bike trail ride that will pass through Grant City on June 23rd next year as part of the "Bike Across Missouri" tour.

Economic Developer Elizabeth Martz reported that she had heard many positive comments on the Fall Festival. Over 100 meals were served by the Masonic Lodge and activity at the kids booth was nonstop. The Extension's baked goods booth sold well. Martz also reported that Sheridan is seeking money to tear down the old schoolhouse.

The city purchased three loads of cold mix for street repair. The council voted to declare a 300 John Deere mower tractor, a 706 Farmall, a 110 mower tractor, a car trailer, a pickup spreader box as surplus property. They will auction these items off online.

Tigers End Softball Season with 3rd Loss to Albany

Worth County gave up four in the second and six in the sixth as they lost 11-7 to Albany in the first round of districts. Northeast Nodaway also lost, falling 12-2 to North Andrew in their first round of districts. The Tigers had a disappointing week to finish the season as they lost 15-1 to North Andrew in their regular season finale.

Worth County kept getting better as the season progressed; they did better each time against Albany after they had a non-competitive loss early in the year to the Warriors. But their inexperience told as Albany was loaded with seniors while Worth County was one of the youngest teams in the area. "I was proud of how you came back and took the lead and never gave up," said Coach Dave Gilland after the game to his players. "You were a wonderful group to work with and it was a pleasure to coach you."

Worth County finally got on the board in the third inning when Alysa Lyle walked to force in a run. Nichole Aragon doubled to the wall in right center, Sydney Thummel got a slap hit up the middle, and Payton Adwell doubled down the right field line to make it 4-3. Albany added an insurance run in the fifth, but Adrian Fletchall doubled off the wall in left to bring in two runs with two strikes on her, while Jacklyn Brooks singled to drive in one more with two strikes on her. Worth County's two-strike hitting was much better. Unfortunately, Worth County unraveled in the bottom of the sixth as they had four wild pitches and two errors as Albany plated six runs in the sixth. Nichole Aragon grounded out in the seventh to bring home Worth County's final run.

The Tigers ended their season with three wins. They have a promising eighth grade class; they had numerous people sidelined with injuries during the course of the season. If their eighth graders can gell and they can get healthy as a team, they will have a chance to improve next year.
