Bonnie Winstead, the daughter of Ralph and Nellie (McCleary) Driskell was born December 26, 1936 in Dora, Missouri. Bonnie graduated from High School in Westboro, Missouri and completed one semester at Tarkio College. In 1975 she earned a medical transcription certificate.
On June 8, 1957 Bonnie was united in marriage to Wayne Winstead at the Westboro Methodist Church, Westboro, Missouri. They became the parents of one daughter Shelly and made their home in Sheridan, Missouri for 52 years. Prior to moving to Sheridan, Bonnie worked for Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg, Iowa. She was also employed at the Grant City Cap Factory, Grant City, Missouri, and retired from the Great Western Bank in Sheridan in 1999. Although retired, she worked part time at the bank for a number of years. Wayne passed away in 2005. Bonnie passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at her home in Sheridan at the age of 74 years.
Bonnie was a loyal and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was described by many as a strong woman with a sense of humor. She coped with her own losses in life and the difficulties of cancer with amazing strength, and through it all she found ways to support friends and family with cards, kind words, and phone calls on holidays, special occasions, or sometimes for no reason other than to let us know she cared. Most spoiled of all were her Grandsons who can tell you that with a gleam in her eyes, a quick hug, and a slick handshake, she could transfer a 20 dollar bill from her hand to theirs faster and more secretly than a pick pocket. Her mischievous ability to delight, and her cheerful, bubbly spirit popping in and out of our homes and workplaces will be missed. She was a member of the Sheridan Chapter #25 Order of the Eastern Star, the Floyd Ray Ames American Legion Auxiliary Post #0515, Sheridan and the Westboro United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents and husband, Wayne, Bonnie was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Mae (Jeannie) Nelson, one brother, Neal Driskell, father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Mildred Winstead. Survivors include, one daughter, Shelly Hiatt and her husband Kevin, Grant City; three grandsons, Brock Hiatt and his wife Amanda, Jordan Hiatt and Stevie Gatewood, and Kyler Hiatt; two great grandsons, Mason Hiatt and Peyton Hiatt; sisters-in-law, Connie Quimby and Joe Craven, and Sandra Henning and her husband Virgil, all of Tarkio; brothers-in-law, Terry Winstead, and his wife Julie, Westboro, and Lyle G. Nelson, Sr., Sidney, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2011, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro.
The family received friends at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service on Friday, June 17th, at Davis Funeral Home.
