Barnes Supports McCain's call for more Vet Benefits

Kay Barnes attended Senator John McCain's speech today at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial, which was sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She issued the following statement:
"There has been too much partisan bickering in Washington and Americans want a change. They want to return to a time when leaders from both political parties were willing to listen to each other and consider their differences to move our country forward.
"While I have disagreements with his approach on the economy and his prescription for Iraq, I respect Senator McCain's military service and the ordeal he survived in Vietnam for the sake of this country. And, I believe after listening to the Senator's remarks today that he and I see eye-to-eye on the matter of caring for our military veterans and their families when they return home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Certainly our veterans, regardless of when and where they served, have not been treated adequately in recent years. It has been an embarrassment. It is imperative for America to start protecting all of our veterans as vigorously and faithfully as they protected the rest of us.
"In particular, I agree with the Senator's comments about the need to fund veterans' health care so no veteran has to continue to travel many miles and then wait in long lines to receive the care they have earned.
"This Administration and its supporters in Congress have repeatedly opposed the funding levels necessary to provide the level of benefits outlined in Senator McCain's speech before the VFW."
